South Sydney Rabbitohs defend Greg Inglis' alarming form slump
Date
April 20, 2016 - 11:25AM
best this NRL season, however his South Sydney teammates have brushed off suggestions their superstar skipper is playing injured.

Inglis' slow start to the season has fuelled rumours the Queensland and Australia No.1 is playing through a knee injury which is affecting his movement.

Numbers provided by Fox Sports show that the premiership-winning custodian has been nowhere near his explosive best in 2016 amid his side's alarming form slump which saw them thrashed 44-18 by North Queensland on Saturday.

In the first seven rounds, Inglis has scored just once, made three linebreaks, had one try assist and one linebreak assist - his numbers down in all the major attacking statistics when contrasted against previous years.

This year he has broken just 18 tackles at an average of 2.5 per game, a significant drop on 2015 (3.85 per game), 2014 (4.6) and 2013 (6.05).

He has averaged just 129 running metres this year, compared with 154m in Souths' premiership year in 2014 and 145m in 2013.

His three linebreaks this year pale in comparison to his output in previous seasons - 15 from 20 games in 2015, 21 from 24 games in 2014 and 15 from 20 games in 2013.

He is even setting up his teammates less with just one try assist to his name this year. In previous years he was having a far bigger affect on the scoreboard with 13 try assists last year, 14 the year before and 11 in 2013.

Despite these numbers, his teammates leapt to his defence on Tuesday with Kirisome Auva'a declaring Inglis' form was down only as much as the rest of the side.

"The last few weeks we've been working on what we need to do and Greg is just one piece of the puzzle," Auva'a said.

"We all have to play a role."

Hymel Hunt also dismissed talk Inglis was playing injured.

"I think Greg is good, he's an awesome leader for us young boys who look up to him," Hunt said.

"I think he's fine injury-wise. I think that's just talk."

Who is Siolo? There is nobody named Siolo listed as a Souths contracted player on the Souths website. Bears players are not contracted to Souths and cannot play for Souths unless they sign a Souths contract

Will be interesting to see the final makeup of the team. Changes are expected but all speculation. It sounds like they're preparing for an ambush....

Nielsen might play. Auva'a looks like to be the guy missing out. I think its a scary thought of having Goodwin and Nielsen next to each other.

i see there is no logical replies on here yet

Shadow, you have your own thread where you can post to your hearts content. You should know where it is because I've not only named it after you but I'm sure you've also noticed by now that I've merged almost all of the numerous threads you create on a daily basis, into that thread. This I've been doing for some weeks now hoping that you'd get the idea...

Anyway, it seems that you haven't so I'm going to be a little more direct.

If you continue to spam up the forum everyday with new threads for every single thought that pops into your head, you will have your thread creation privileges removed. That includes situations like the one that occurred last night where a game day thread had already been set up for our game against the Broncos on Friday and you took it upon yourself to create a new one.

You are of course, welcome to post in threads other than the one which is named after you, but if you continue to post large blocks of replies in individual threads, one after the other, then I will deem it that you are deliberately message bombing (which is against forum rules) and I will have you banned. We come here to discuss football, not to be confronted by a wall of one line replies, one after the other.

I've been watching you for a while now and you've earned this warning because I think you are deliberately behaving in an anti social manner in order to piss off the other members of this forum. This will stop from today.

Take this as your first and last warning. If you continue doing what you have been doing then there will be consequences.

Imagine being the broncos brain trust. You've seen teams exploit our weakness on the left edge. You make plans to attack the left edge all week. Milf is having wet dreams about attacking an out of form auva'a and goodwin, Hunt, roberts and kahu are wetting themselves at the prospect, then at the last minute you hear nielsen and Johnston are in and you may have to take another approach

Take another approach. Lol.

Nielsen is a dud.

They'll be over the moon the Broncs if Nielsen plays.
