Keary: Good Friday One of My Favourite Games

Wed 23rd March, 09:18AM
A A

South Sydney Rabbitohs half, Luke Keary, is looking forward to his side’s annual Good Friday clash against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

The Good Friday clash between the two clubs has gained a solid reputation as one of the game’s showpiece events, with crowds in excess of 40,000 regularly turning out to cheer on their team.

“It’s probably one of my favourite games of the year,” said Keary.

“It was a cracker last year – we’ve had big crowds and we’re expecting another big one this Friday.”

After experiencing the ferocity of the last Good Friday clash, Keary knows exactly what to expect from the Bulldogs, who will be looking to bounce back from their Round 3 loss at the hands of the Parramatta Eels and regather some momentum.

“I’m expecting them to be just as physical on Friday,” said Keary.

“We’re expecting another close game, as they always are.”

The physicality of the affair is only one aspect of the game that Keary is excited about though. The Rabbitohs halfback is also looking forward to the challenge of squaring off against the Bulldogs halves pairing of Moses Mbye and Josh Reynolds.

“I think Moses (Mbye) is playing real good in the halves,” said Keary

“I love playing against Josh (Reynolds), we’ve had a few good battles. I’m sure he’ll have a few things to say.”

Keary also spoke positively of the halves combination that he has formed with NRL newcomer, Cody Walker, who has stepped up in the absence of Adam Reynolds.

“Yeah, it’s been good,” said Keary

“He’s a bit of a livewire player and he gets around the field. It’ll be interesting to see how he goes in the next month.”

Rabbitohs halfback Adam Reynolds may not be playing in this week’s Good Friday clash against the Bulldogs, but that hasn’t stopped him from getting into the Easter spirit this week by heading out to Sydney’s Royal Easter Show.

Reynolds made a number of new furry friends during his visit to The Show, taking time out to feed some baby lambs while talking about Friday’s blockbuster clash.

Reynolds urged Rabbitohs Members and supporters to make a day of it this Friday by heading to The Show before taking in a quality Good Friday game that has become a staple in the NRL calendar.

“There’s a good feel around at the moment – everyone’s talking about the Good Friday clash,” said an excited Reynolds.

“It’s a public holiday (on Friday), travel is included which is always good. It’s always a great game and this one will be no different.”

Rabbitohs Members will also have the chance to celebrate Easter with the Rabbitohs Megastore Showbag! Simply visit one of the Club’s merchandise outlets located at Ailes 104 and 127, flash your Rabbitohs Membership card, and get into the Good Friday footy fun with the Rabbitohs Showbag!

All tickets to the Good Friday match include entry and return travel on Sydney Trains and Olympic Park Major Event Buses, so leave the car at home and take advantage of the additional and direct public transport services in place. All fans who have not pre-booked parking should not drive.

Maguire’s Insights – Rd 4, 2016

Tue 22nd March, 05:58PM
A A

Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire, has given his insights into this week’s Round 4 clash against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs on Good Friday at ANZ Stadium.

The Rabbitohs will be looking to bounce back and regather their momentum against the Bulldogs when they return to ANZ Stadium for the traditional Good Friday showdown.

According to Maguire, there is room for improvement ahead of this week’s clash following last week’s two-point loss to the Dragons.

“There are areas from our game last week that we’re looking forward to improving,” said Maguire.

“The standards we set are very high and we need to make sure we are meeting those,

“When you meet those, you get to build pressure within what you are doing.”

Maguire is adamant that the preparation leading into this week’s game will play a significant role in determining the way in which the game is played as well as the result.

“Moving forward, it’s all about today’s training building into Friday’s game,” said Maguire.

“It’s really a preparation to make sure that we’re working hard for each other and enjoying playing with each other.”

In addition to discussing the improvements that need to be made leading into the encounter, Maguire also discussed the excitement that is associated with the Good Friday clash between the two sides, with both Rabbitohs and Bulldogs fans set to turn out in force.

“We’re always spoilt to get a big crowd out at this one,” said Maguire.

“It’s a special game – this one brings a bit of significance with a few people coming across from the show (the Easter Show),

“Our Members really do enjoy getting out there in the afternoon.”

Looking at the 2 teams on paper to be honest I don't think our forwards ( without Sam,Tom,Sutton and Musgrove or Carter ) will have any hope of stopping the massive dogs pack from rolling over the top of us
Just being realistic it will be like boys playing men and am expecting the dogs to win well

So am I.

I don't know how we will stop the offloads. It's gonna be a big problem.

So anyone know who the winger is who is injured and won't play??? Is it Gray?????

If so, does Madge move Auva'a to centre and Bryson to wing???? Gosiewski debuts????

Or should Auva'a stay on the bench to be used in the back row with Oldfield coming in????

Maybe it depends on what happens with Carter too????

Would Auva'a be a bit pissed off if he's not first priority to go into the back line?????

Hmmmm........... Interesting.........

Thoughts.......

If they can do all the little things smoothly and complete lots of sets all night they may be a hope
Keary needs to prove he's worth the money and take control of the team especially without sam there
The forwards need to be aggressive all night especially Clark and Tyrrell
The team needs to swarm quickly relentlessly for 80 mins
The last tackle options need to deliver pressure or points last weeks options were crap and widdop won the game with smart kicking
Still nowhere near confident

R20 to be honest if the boys can somehow manage to win this game ( or even keep it close and compete for 80) I will be very very proud come Saturday let's wait and see they are still capable with a stack of great players left in the team fingers crossed

And most of all importance ...... Please NO RAIN

They are saying there will be showers around in the afternoon.

I bloody hope not. We are not good in the rain.

Oi Bensville we need a fair go from the ref to. It's Cummins. We'd better not get all our penalties right on our try line and the Dogs get all theirs on halfway.

Dragons got away with too much. A few obstructions from them too that weren't penalised. Forward passes, player with a foot on the sideline kicking the ball forcing a drop out, flopping and tackling around the head etc......

You mean Friday at 4pm :lol:

If the boys have a good go and we lose narrowly I'll be proud of them. Can't see us winning.

Brown needs to have a really big game as does George, GI, Cook, Keary and Grevsmuhl.
