I really dislike DWZ as a footballer, don’t care about the haircut and dives into the corner, outside of that he doesn’t offer much
Of the 2435 poor takes I've offered over the years, I will pump my own tyres that I said this about Dallin very early in the season and was widely shouted down.

But I always thought once the tries dried up, there wasn't a lot left. He carries the ball strongly, to be fair, but his defense has always been diabolical. That 'effort' for the first try was woeful, I've seen that so much. And he'll rush in like there's a fire to attend to, as well. Nice player to have in a semi-dominant/well-performed team in a good attacking structure, a liability if not.

The worst part about the last ten minutes is we finally started using creativity in our attacking sets.

That was 3 (should have been 4) tries in 10 minutes as soon as SJ started doing something original.
He missed two clangers with the boot too - fast asleep for most of the game and we still could have won it.
The worst thing about it is that it distracts from how woeful we were. I knew it would happen - I went to bed at 70 minutes, and I knew we'd score a couple of times. 30-20 looks bad but not woeful, 30-4 was pathetic at home, big crowd, an Eels side with no confidence and won twice since round 3.

Our young centres shown up badly tonight!

I think that is the key. Ordinarily we only run one greenhorn in these critical defender spots, and now we see why Webster only gives them sporadic games.

The Eels game plan was to put two on ones vs the Centers and our lads did not have a clue how to defend it, because they have never seen it before.

I will reserve more comment for the Webster thread because these post game threads are transient.

Ali dropped a tackle on the try line, that is on him a one on one fail, but the Eels you have to give credit to for isolating MGT and Ali with beautiful set plays.

The Eels won that game on their tip sheet before a ball was kicked in anger.

Listening to the Levels wrap up of last weekend

On discussing the Warriors, Horo said he thought the AFB saga derailed their season and Willie said he had heard some of the stuff that was going on and it wasn’t good but didn’t elaborate any more

It must have derailed us in a very specific way, such that AFB himself continued playing well and we were ok as long as SJ wasn't playing

Yeah, that's an interesting take...the times AFB sooked and then wasn't picked, we won. Then he returned, and played well. And we lost.

I guess a way you could turn that around, is that it was a happier, more functioning team when he hasn’t been on the park compared to when he has been ?

I don’t know, but the Warriors didn’t look as terrible after a couple of months as they have since his news came out, that day he missed the team song was absolutely bizarre, and there was a poster on here that attended I think the Titans game, and saw Jazz getting stuck into AFB on the sideline. Gut feel is his carry on has split the squad a bit

Yeah, good point.

I still think people in the media are so bad at this, there's always got to be an intriguing issue as to why a team is struggling. Sometimes, it's as boring as they have the wrong players, a sub-par game plan etc. I know that's not sexy enough for podcasts, articles etc, but it could well be the crux of the issue with us.

One of the best I ever remember was Ian Healy suggesting Australia got bowled out for 60 in the Ashes because their wives had just turned up on tour. Nothing to do with their techniques!

I hadn't listened to this pod before, wow it's outstanding. I now have a new show to listen to on my commute.

I really enjoyed how articulate they both were (especially Horo) about the deeper intricacies of the game, that we get absolutely zero of with our piss-poor TV coverage in NZ. Really interesting how they talked about timing, and that the Warriors have had so many personnel changes, injuries, SJ not training, swapping positions etc, that they believe that's a major part of the failings. Those combinations and timing are formed in trainings and games, and there's been no continuity of that. Makes huge sense.

It is absolutely outstanding, it is my go to league listen twice a week. They go into plenty of detail but there is no shit about them and they break the games down well. Willie is a great talent with the the media stuff

Focusing on AFB seems to be excuse making, we just haven't looked the goods this year in a number of areas.

Plus, AFB is there because of the team management, that's on them, they could have just let him go - which is what some of suggested they should do.

Thats exactly what I’ve thought the problem has been for much of the season. The most obvious examples being the Roosters and Raiders games where we got skinned in the first quarters, the team taking a while to play as if they knew what each other were doing.
