We are missing Reyno big time guys as expected.

yes he was definitely missed today. i don't know what the heck gi was thinking going for that drop goal o_o
we probably weren't going to win anyway, but putting up a bomb or something would have been better

We where very unlucky with some of the penalties. Still don't know why the tackle on GI wasn't a penalty in the first half.

Please explain why that tackle on GI should've been a penalty? It was nothing like a cannonball tackle. It was unfortunate GI has a suspect knee but not one rule was broken in that tackle. DeBelin hit around the hip/thigh region side on.

I think if Reynolds plays today, Souths would've gotten the win. His short kicking game would've put a lot more pressure on saints. The last 10 mins of the game with A Reynolds in the side would've forced 3-4 drop outs IMO with the field position Souths had.

Always tough losing a close one like that, i hope Sam is ok and for to go as soon as possible.

I re watched it and I think it was below the thigh. Maxwell should have called held the dimwit. There was no need for what De Belin did.

I shudder to think what the Dogs will try to do to GI. Hasler whinges but his team gets away with lots and a good run at the judiciary.

St George kept flopping on us and weren't penalised.

When Souths flopped we got penalised. They were offside and Maxwell was flapping like a bat and yelling at St George who weren't listening instead of pulling out the whistle.

It's tough losing when 6 of your penalties are near your own try line and you only get 1 attacking.

It's tough when St George got 12 penalties in good field position.

In the second half when Souths were 20 or 30m out Maxwell put the whistle in his mouth but wouldn't blow it when it was clear the Dragons infringed. He was doing it on purpose.

I was at the game Nape in the Burrow. I know what I saw.

When Souths throw a borderline pass it's called forward.

Dragons got away with 2 blatant forward passes.

In attack a Dragons player put his foot in touch and then kicked. They missed it and it was a drop out.

Should have been a scrum to Souths.

I could write you a novel Nape on how inept it was actually.

Couldn't believe my eyes actually!!!!!

R20, weren't you saying on the "Cecchin " thread that you preferred maxwell and that he was way better? Now it seems he doesn't make your cut?

Like the weather you are! :)

I think GI had a brain explosion and thought it was 8 all when it wasn't.

GI should have put up a bomb to AJ.

Keary was terrible.

He has to pull his finger out.

We will miss Reyno in these big games coming up starting this Friday.

Well Maxwell wasn't good to us in Round 1 against Rorters. Penalties were against us 11-6.

But today I saw how bad Maxwell was.

I thought Maxwell was better but......................

We will see when Cecchin refs Souths this season!!!!!

The point of today is the performance from Maxwell was atrocious. I've listed why in other threads.

I don't think he did too bad to be honest. Believe me, I hate the merkin, our winning record under him is woeful and have been on the wrong end of the penalties many a time.

Ive watched every Souths game this year and the last two weeks you owned the opposition forwards, you had roll on each time and they never really pushed your defense. This time the dragons made you work a bit and the penalties flowed. I don't think it's poor refereeing as much as it you guys tried to regain momentum by slowing the ruck speed down.

We were guilty of it last night and Brisbane could have had a couple more go their way.

There were a couple odd ones but the flopping penalties are really borderline. I feel if the team in attack has momentum or has made good metres you are more likely to get pinged for slowing it down. As obvious as that sounds.

As for Inglis, he totally had a bet on lol he was really spaced out at half time, kept looking skyward in the dressing room feed on fox. Concussed? Not sure but massive brain snap. That ball goes up and you might jag a win

GI should have said,& maintained, that he was aiming for the goal-posts to get a rebound & score!!

He's such a great player that people would have believed him!

That would have been a sight to see!

I was thinking you guys might jag a win right at the death, it was building up to a grandstand finish but it wasn't to be.

Now I have no issue with the tackle on Inglis as JDB hit the hip area but GI's knees can't have anything left in them. He'll end up like Dean Young and be in pain all the time, if he isn't already.

Id say he didn't get penalised because he didn't do anything wrong. Hit Inglis a lot closer to the hips, if not hip then to the knee.

Can't blame the refs for that one.
Dragons forwards dominated and we were giving away penalties trying to keep in the game. We recieved most of our penalties coming off our line after having defend sets close to the line, those kind of penalties are heaven sent. Dragons recieved a lot of penalties when we were defending our line, a lot of those penalties were given away deliberately by our defence to help our line get set. I remember on one occasion we dropped the ball close to our line and immediately gave away a penalty to help get our line set. We then gave away 2 more penalties in consecutive sets as we tried to hold them out. That's not to say we didn't get a few dud calls but every team gets those every game. Mitch rein got away with a few forward passes but mcinnes had a few flat ones not called either.
Jack de Belins tackle was legal, he hit around the hips, inglis still had momentum so he was entitled to get involved.
If you want to know why we lost look at the aftermath of Inglis and Burgess injuries. After the inglis incident our forwards were doing a lot of pointing and chest puffing, but didn't walk the walk after talking the talk. Then after sams injury, and having a dragons hollering immediately after, no souths forward was fired up about the incident. We got beaten by a hungrier team

Inglis has a brain snap, attempting a field goal on last play

Greg Inglis' embarrassing brain snap

SOUTH Sydney captain Greg Inglis is usually quite reserved and doesn’t bother himself with much trouble on the field.

But there were two incidents that left him rattled in Sunday’s clash with the Dragons at Sydney Cricket Ground.

The most baffling of which was the final play of the game as the Rabbitohs trailed by two points.

With the ball in hand and precious few seconds on the clock running at the Dragons’ line, the Queensland legend did the unthinkable and took a punt at a field goal — to the absolute disbelief of his teammates.

Inglis’ attempt sailed wide, but even if it hit the mark the Rabbitohs would have lost anyway, by one less point.

It was one of the most bizarre moments of the season so far and the commentators struggled to make sense of his decision in that moment.

Earlier, he took exception to a seemingly innocuous tackle from the Dragons defence, and in particular, his Indigenous All Stars teammate Joel Thompson.

In poor conditions, Inglis was battling to get into the field of play after tiding up a kick when Jack De Belin, Mitch Rein and Thompson trying force him backwards.

Inglis was not happy with the extra attention from Thompson and launched the ball at his face from close range, inciting a push and shove between the two arch rival clubs.

Dragons v Rabbitohs: Five key points

In awful conditions at the SCG, St George Illawarra bounced back from a big loss to Cronulla last week to upset the red-hot Rabbitohs. Here are five talking points from the 8-6 win.
Report: Burgess injured as Dragons down Souths

Souths succumb to water torture

"Water torture encompasses a variety of techniques using water to inflict physical or psychological harm on a victim as a form of torture or execution," states noted journalistic resource Wikipedia, and is a particularly apt description for how the Dragons ground the Rabbitohs out of this contest, given the conditions.
They finished with a whopping 55 per cent of possession for the match, having forced four goal line drop-outs to none, and showing far better discipline to win the error count 9-5 and penalty count 13-7.
Captain Gareth Widdop, whose accurate kicking punished his opposition, said he was just looking to try and help his side win field position.
"It's hard in those conditions to put the ball in the air at times so wet slippery conditions, [so you just] try and find the ground. At times we did that and were just happy to win field position," he said.
Maguire proud of effort despite result
To have had to soak up the amount of defence – much of it at their try-line – as they did, Maguire was happy his charges kept picking themselves up to keep tackling.
"I was really proud of our players of the adversity they had to face throughout the game," he said.
"We didn't help ourselves too often throughout the game. There were quite a number of penalties which I'll have a look at and just around our kicking game, the clinical parts of our game and the polish wasn't quite there at times.
"Credit to St George they were able to get a few back-to-back sets and that builds pressure on you. Our players had to go through quite a number of those and they kept getting up and working hard defensively."

Dugan certain for another start at fullback
Much of the conversation around the Dragon's 0-2 start to the season has centred on the struggles of new fullback Kurt Mann, while gun fullback Josh Dugan played in the centres.
After an afternoon to forget at the back against the Sharks, Mann was demoted for the Souths game and his replacement in the No.1 jersey used his size and strength to ensure his team started their sets strongly.
Dugan battered his body through a match-high 210 metres from a game-high 22 runs. He had to do it the hard way, on a slow, soggy pitch, notching no tackle busts throughout but ensuring his side stayed out of their danger zone.
He came in for heady praise from coach Paul McGregor after the game, who guaranteed Dugan would play fullback again next week.
"It's experience; especially in conditions like [Sunday], experience is everything," McGregor said.
"Big body... 20-plus carries, that's what he brings to a footy team. We all talk about scoring points but it's about the condition to score points as well and him at the back gets us forward well and defensively he was outstanding."
Inglis joins the Terry Lamb appreciation society
With his side trailing 8-6 but in opposition territory as the final siren sounded, Rabbitohs skipper Greg Inglis bizarrely took a shot at drop goal. If successful it would have ensured an 8-7 loss for his side but he pushed the shot wide, allowing the Dragons to hang on to their 8-6 win.
For older rugby league fans it harked back to a 1992 Canterbury v Newcastle match where Bulldogs legend Terry Lamb potted a one-pointer in the dying moments with his side down 12-10, mistakenly thinking it was 10-all and consigning his side to a 12-11 loss.
Inglis and his coach could afford to laugh about it after, with the captain shrugging it off as a "brain explosion" that would find its way onto blooper reels.
His coach interjected: "He's probably a bit of a fan of Terry Lamb's I suppose!"
Once the chuckles from the press gallery died down, Maguire added with a grin: "Someone had to say it."
But he also leapt to the defence of the man who has led his side to plenty of big wins.
"It was just one of those things, Greggy's been terrific for us many times making decisions all the time and in that moment in time – not one of his best decisions but he's made a lot of good ones."
