Dylan Collier...is pretty slow and not agressive enough on attack.
I think he was 18th man.

I wouldnt be judging Henry too harshly..compared to blackmore he hasnt quite had the squad.

A lot of the Vulcans players have pulled away from the Vulcans for Financial reasons.
They train 3+ a week, sometimes have halfdays and apparently on get paid for a win.

Hence why guys like Tevita Latu (Pt Chev) & Darin Kingi (Papakura) have pulled out and played for local clubs who would probably give decent match payments.

However he must be desperate if he is picking blokes from Richmond Bulldogs, who play in 2nd Div.

I think the Vulcans need to review the Local Comp and look for young blokes (under 23) who are still motivated and start asking them to come to trainings.

Plays guys that arent getting picked by ackland, or just standout young guys in the Fox.

Sticky Henry was a pretty reasonable player. He was signed to Souths before they departed the comp back then. I don't believe he has the skills to coach at that level though. Maybe he will develop tnem in time. The Warriors need to come to the party with a lot more dollars to ensure these blokes get decent match payments. Being paid more by Auckland Premier clubs is a ludicrous situation when you consider that the NSW Cup comp is effectively the NRL reserve grade comp by another name.

I say the Warriors rather than Auckland Rugby League, because they are the sole beneficaries of the Vulcans.

It must be a fairly expensive exercise running a NSW cup team. I wonder how much it is per annum, and whether logistically and financially it's much more expensive than for the sydney teams.

I believe that NSWRL cover at least some of that cost.

Given recent events with our mob and deals involving shared costs that could mean anything, and not in a good way.

VB NSW Cup Rd #15 Preview - Auckland Vulcans vs North Sydney Bears

The Vulcans have a huge challenge ahead of them as they travel to North Sydney Oval to take on a rampaging Bears side, this Saturday at 3pm (5pm NZT).

Coach Ricky Henry has made a total of six changes to his team, who he will be hoping can turn their season around with a win against the benchmark team.
...
For the red and black machine, who consistently field a pack that is the envy of the competition, it should be business as usual. The Bears' roll was temporarily slowed at Henson Park in round nine, but they have since put together an impressive four match winning streak.

Coming off losses to Cronulla and Newcastle respectively, the Vulcans remain in the top eight, barely. The men in blue are relying solely on points differential to retain their spot over Mounties and the Sharks, but will need to earn more ticks in the win column if they hope to stay there.

Young Jordan Meads showed the goods last week and has earned another start next to Godinet in the halves, while Aaron Nootai looks to have also done the same at hooker.

Daniel Palavi and Herman Retzlaff take over from Sam Rapira and Ukuma Ta'ai in the front row, while the trusty Tulson Caird and Agnatius Paasi are given the thumbs up to make their return to the starting side.

In terms of the bigger picture, the Vulcans clearly face an uphill battle to make a return to the Grand Final stage. Without the luxury of a consistent playing roster, the Vulcans' have shown real guts and determination in their performances.

As daunting as this challenge may be for the lads from Mount Smart, the Bears will be extra cautious of their round 15 opponents who recently toppled the competition's former leader and runner up despite unlikely odds.

Meads and Godinet make for a tiny halves pairing...

And George Burgess back in NSW cup after one game. He was pretty ordinary, no doubt about it. Has a much squarer jaw than Sam, though.

The Warriors have been riding the gravy train since the demise of the reserve grade comp. I know a lot of clubs would benefit with the $$ the ARL has already spent propping up the vulcans. The Warriors are a privately owned club, why should a governing body of a provincial league organisation be financially supporting this private entity? Does the ARL have shares? Hospitality box for the executive? How really benefits? The warriors? The players? Or the ARL? Strengthen up the local comp and the interest in it by sending all the overflow players to play in it. That's when the ARL will benefit, by doing nothing and spending nothing.

With all the talk about how much we offered the likes of Matai, I think it a bit alarming that there isn't enough there to keep the second tier viable for fringe players. If the salaries are so top heavy how do we look after the pool from which we draw the top graders? Is it healthy for the game? Is it in the spirit of our league community?
