In today`s paper.

Sources with knowledge of the situation have told the Herald and that the WA government wants to stage another double-header in Perth, like the one that marked the opening of Optus Stadium in 2018. On that occasion, the venue hosted round one clashes between South Sydney and the Warriors, followed by a Bulldogs-Storm encounter.
There is an appetite for Optus Stadium, which has hosted two State of Origin fixtures, to accommodate more top-flight rugby league. Perth powerbrokers are open to the timing of potential matches in 2023. Round one has appeal, as does July-August when several Sydney venues will be unavailable due to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The WA government is prepared to pay to make the move financially rewarding for the NRL and its clubs.

They really want a Rugby League team in Western Australia.

They've spent $160mill on hbf park, they dont want it sitting empty for half the year. I doubt Optus would ever be viable venue for NRL games beyond double headers. Its fine when full but would be a bit shthouse experience with 20k or less in it.

Is it not great to hear of an area that want your product. Most other businesses would fall over themselves to service such a want

The code is absolutely crying out for a team in W.A. for so many reasons, why haven`t we got one ? Must go down as one of the greatest stuff-ups in Oz sporting history, letting the Western Reds fold. What might have been.

Add the Rams and a second Brisbane team to that list as well. At least we are getting another Brisbane team after a 30 odd year wait.

Perth is an absolute no brainer. They are actually paying the game to get clubs to play over there. If that’s not a sign, I don’t know what is

we have game with little vision or self belief. It looks at its own navel too much and doesn't dare to dream of what could be. Sadly that is the nature of our games management. We should have had Brisabne2 in 2013 and Perth in 2018 and now be talking about the possibilities of a 20 team comp. Its a disgrace that we arent there or even near it yet.

Terrigal is amazing

all of it is pretty much

juniors

great ground

leagues clubs across the road

no contest

I could say that Adelaide Hills and Glenelg is amazing but whether a place is amazing or not (and that is a subjective argument in any case) is irrelevant to whether it meets essential criteria or not.

CC has a small population spread out over a large distance, no corporate base to speak of (or very little) and is surrounded by 10 other NRL sides within a spitting distance of it. The area has had trouble sustaining an A-League side for instance.

There is really no argument for a CC side other than a curious argument that League is popular there or that there are juniors in the area. None of that prohibits people from going to games as it is or supporting a side or one of their juniors moving an hour either way to play for one of the 10 other sides in NSW.

Btw that’s not me saying that Adelaide definitely should have an NRL side although I think if the Rams were given a proper chance they would have worked (so would a Perth team). I am just against a CC side because it is such a completely myopic and conservative choice to expand. It is even a misnomer of the word expansion

Hmmm Adelaide 1.3 million people mainly afl fans. In one of the poorest states in Australia

Central coast and north Sydney area 500k rugby league fans . In one of the most affluent places in Australia

cc > Adelaide

Central Coast isn’t affluent at all (at least a large part of it). Nonetheless, we’re not talking about an alternate reality where there isn’t already nine Sydney sides and a Newcastle side in the competition. Putting another side within a 150-200km radius within 10 other sides would be one of the dumbest ideas of all time.

You’d prefer a couple of New Zealand sides, Perth, a 3rd and 4th Brisbane side, Adelaide, even PNG and a Pacific side (even if those two previous don’t make financial side) and even a Central Queensland before you would even contemplate a Central Coast team. All of those options would add something that the Central Coast couldn’t offer.
