Billy Moore, in the latest episode of the Rad Footy podcast, reckons the Bears have basically got a deal stitched up with the NRL to return as the 18th club. 4 games at North Sydney Oval, including 1 against Manly, a year and they'll go wherever they need to.

Perth, Queensland, New Zealand, they'll go anywhere. Wherever the NRL want them.

Of course Billy might be full of shit, but it's still an interesting idea.

Edit: Just realised I'm repeating the article above 😩

This is the type of thinking that ensures we are $200 million in arrears of fumbleball. FMD.

They better not be coming to perth! If they do with that deal I will not attend a single game Other than to cheer Storm on when they play here.

If they bring the Bears back then my passion for the game will nosedive.
It isn't the Bears fault that RL never misses an opportunity to shoot it's self in the foot.

If you were in their position you'd weasel your way into the competition anyway you could as well, the people that let them in are the ones to direct your anger at.

That's if you can be bothered to be angry. Personally I don't have the energy for that anymore, I just become more apathetic.

I cannot blame the Bears for wanting a spot in the NRL. V'landys is turning out to be the most destructive figure in the game since Arthurson and Quayle. Under their leadership of our game they gave the pay TV rights to Packer for $0. Now we've got V'landys handing our game to News Ltd and Ch9 for $240m less per annum than the deal the AFL just signed with News Ltd and Ch 7.

Saw something interesting on the channel 9 coverage was wondering if any one else saw it. After full-time when they showed the highlights I`m sure that they were sponsored or at least " Western Australia " appeared on the screen next to ` Highlights `.

you watch ch9? That’s quaint lol.

they’ve been negotiating with nrl for games for next few years and just chucked a ton of money at tourism advertising so probably part of all that.

Yeah it`s a mixed bag, Billy Slater I can`t speak highly enough of, he`s brilliant, doesn`t miss a trick he`s an absolute highlight for me, makes League commentary genuinely intelligent.
Johns, as I say to the wife "depressing", uninsightful, lame and just plain dumb. Usual standard tonight referencing The Simpsons, for god`s sake., with Cam Smith guffawing in the background.

If they are planning on playing any ‘home’ games at NSO the idea should be dead on arrival. Knowing how badly the game is run though, you’ll probably get in
I could live with 1 or even 2 games at nso as long as bears pay for them. What is a definite non negotiable is ownership of the license. that has to be in WA.
It’s a real shame the WARL doesn’t still exist. The nrl could have done what afl did here and award the license to the WARL. The WARL then charge the nrl club for license use and use that money to invest in jnrs.
The 2 afl clubs here pay the wafl around $5mill a year for the rights.
this way the WARL hold the license for ever more and if bears want to pay them to be Perths team they could.
It guarantees the license remains in WA if it doesn’t work out with the bears. Sadly as nrl has now taken over WARL we can’t do that.
NS Bears can never own the license if they want to be perths club.

Really it should be bears have the license, ONLY if they continue to have minimum 10 matches in WA, otherwise they lose it, but that doesn't mean WA keep it.. coz that will be another means for infighting which could drive a wedge between the folks in WA, and bears, setting up another potential for northern eagles type/style infighting..
I mean you cant set up these parameters, and give anyone a loop hole to tank it, not saying WA doesn't deserve a team, but if they go this route, it has to be bears or fold

Or maybe the nrlwa retains the license and offers it to a franchise to which has to pay $2mill ayear to nrlwa? This way it stays in WA guaranteed and the nrlwa gets the money it needs to develop jnrs. The nrlwa can then provide a 5 or 10 year guarantee to the franchise for the license use.
Or a WA consortium own it and the deal with bears is for brand use and jnr pathways only.
whichever way we do it the bears can never own the license or they will be back in nsw fulltime within a few years.
.
As much as I’d love a local club i wouldn’t support a perth bears if the license was owned by NS, and I suspect there would be many fans here like me.

That will still be a reason for the WA side of the new club to tank the bears... again it has to be all or nothing, any inkling of the license remaining in WA if after the bears should fail, will open up issues, same as if they ever tried to take it back to nsw
