This is true, but the nature of the game on the field makes it possible for a tiny club to become "decent sized" in the first place.
Also I feel like English football has more generational dyed in the wool fans who will support their club through thick and thin. Australian fans in most sports seem to be more fair weather and would stop supporting their club if they were relegated. Obviously you’d still have a small group of die hards.

The answer for the NRL isn't to relegate/promote, we can not afford to treat our clubs this way, if a club drops out of the comp, it usually come with losing that roster, members, fans and interest, i get that UK football has the lower teir comps, but no one watches the equivalent in Aus, its basically a breeding ground for reserves and rookies, it doesn't work the same way, and will effectively kill the participation of the area, north sydney bears and Newtown jets are the prime example,
Fair enough theres a heap of Sydney based clubs, so those two drop away, and its business as usual, but imagine if Melbourne Storm or Brisbane Broncos have to relegate, how do you have a comp that doesn't have them or the Newcastle knights.
And before you answer, one rule for all, there is no such thing as sydney clubs getting relegated, and expansion teams not... it will never ever come to pass
When Colk posted "promotion/relegation won't work in Australia", I replied "That's accepted".

I explained too that I'm against it for English RL. I support a club who were perennially in the old second division. Every promotion to the top tier was followed by a relegation season. And we were worse off for the two seasons taken together.

With a few exceptions, that's how it was for English Soccer clubs in the 70s and 80s when I was going to games.

The ethos changed from the early 90s onwards. Soccer started attracting a wider range of people who went to games as they would go to the cinema or theatre.

Let me again emphasize I am not advocating promotion/relegation for pro RL anywhere.

BTW, the most spectacular of the aforementioned exceptions was when Man Utd were relegated in 1974. Along with the big crowds that continued to fill Old Trafford in season 74-75, the travelling Red Army descended on second division towns across the country terrorizing local communities and heavily outnumbering home fans.

nailed it Dane

lucky you didn’t bet
Mate you're not making any sense now. Literally none of this follows from the discussion we've had so far.
I will give you credit though

everything you said about the dolphins has been spot on

good call
I've only got one thing wrong so far...

I thought they'd run with the Redcliffe name, but I didn't know that they couldn't because of rules in the Q Cup, so I let myself off on that one.

They’ve made a great start, better than expected on the field. Off the field they’ve been ok. But so was the titans In year 1.

How do they know that? Are they privy to all the clubs 2023 sponsorship portfolios?

15k members is just ok, I thought they’d get more tbh. It’s a start but not massive

crowds year one in a rl city should always be good. If they’re not then We’d have real problems. I’m waiting to see dolphins v an out of town club at suncorp to see a true picture Of their active fanbase. If they get 20k plus for that then yep great start.

I always predicted that any new Brisbane team would draw big crowds and ratings at least initially. Let's see how they go in a few years time when they're mid table and the novelty effect has worn off.

BTW, their first game's attendance and membership numbers have been pretty shit. They could, and should, have done way better than they have, but I guess it's hard to push season tickets when you play a bunch of games all over the joint in shit venues.

Your bet would have had to have made sense for you to take me to cleaners as well.
