They are going with the Bears because the NRL ”strongly advised “ them too… Cumins has said several times he would prefer to go it alone …obviously the NRL see it as an opportunity to kill two birds with the one stone

Well yeah the few K they will get to away games on the East as opposed to a new club is of huge benefit.

Dolphins were told they had to spend $2m a year on junior development. They had the lower grades set up so no extra cost.

Perth before you even include travel you have coaches, strappers and so on.

So the Bears covering that likely wipes a good slab of the $30m start up costs off. So that is a money value that the Bears are bringing in.

Whether they have to stump up front or not

I wonder if the Western Bears should try and partner up with Burleigh Bears to develop a Qlnd pathway to go with their NSW and WA ones?

Shifting the goal posts as usual

clubs don’t keep the bar or food revenue

merivale just paid millions for the contract at Allianz
It literally says in a SQ report that the venue hirer (ie the clubs) get a cut of the catering and drinks profit alongside the venue and the catering license holder.
Tell me where you are getting it from that no club does?

Why do you think Justin hemmes paid millions for the catering contract at Allianz ?

Given what were the initial “demands” we read in the media from the Bears around Sydney games and board members… the Perth consortium has got off pretty lightly …

it’s as close to a win/win as these compromises can be IMO… the Bears name and colours live on … but it’s still a primarily Perth team

I have wanted Perth Bears all along because I think they need an East Coast link up.

From what we have heard it is setup how it should be. I think the 200k Bears members is BS but they should get a good 5k to most Sydney games.

Some of the boomer fans having gun grand kids wanting to play for the Bears would help.

Though they can go to the school carnivals and sell the kids that they can stay home finish school then move over.

I see that as another win as opposed to stand alone.

So I agree looks a good mix

Like I said every stadium is different. in Queensland its clear from the stadium report I shared the hirer gets a cut of the profits. Im sure its a small % compared to the provider but they get something.
Maybe NSW is same? Ive not seen anything to say they do or they dont, same with Perth. That article doesnt say either way.

yep, its what I said it needed to be. A Perth based and owned club drawing on the strength of the NS Bears brand history and pathways.
The good news is the fans of both sides seem to be adjusting and getting excited about the future of the Western Bears. End of day if the fans dont back it then its dead before it starts, but that doesnt look likely.

I dare might suggest that you expressed a few more concerns in the lead up …

However … I think when all is said and done … Perth fans have a team to support now .. the name I think is pretty irrelevant at the end of the day …

I have complained before that the NRL has dragged the chain too long on this … they should have announced this move in the last offseason and got them up in 2026 … it’s going to seem like a long wait

The food and drinks for the plebs are rented out by the stadium owner (sure they may have incentives to the clubs if gates are more than average)

both Allianz and commbank have specialised members bars which the clubs sell to corporates. The clubs charge a cost per person and would pay the stadium the costs to run it

stadium naming rights would go to the stadium owner as would most stadium signage

but I’m sure clubs would get some spaces for their advertising too

Perth negotiated a very good deal

bears were stupid not accepting any board seats or ownership but they caved in

Dont know they had much choice, Perth would have gone it alone and taken the chance by the sounds of it. If what the WA govt is offering is true they'd have taken the punt that the NRL would still accept them.

As it is WA got what we needed, ownership and NS got what it needs to survive, brand in NRL and direct pathway for the NSFC. The protection of partnership stuff will be dealt with in legal contracts. Not having a divided board can only be a good thing.

They're on borrowed time. If, or when, the NRL reintroduce a reserve grade that is them gone the way of Mounties, Wentworthville and many others. Their only option for survival was Perth or NZ and it was clear Perth were getting in and NZ was unknown.
They would have only got on the board if they were offering serious cash investment, that obviously wasnt offered, or maybe wasnt needed.

Yeh no cash no board seats that’s fair enough

nz would’ve been a decent partner or just bid from the central coast

they got desperate which is Perths gain

Makes me think that the NRL has already decided amongst themselves who these three expansion teams are already and are just directing traffic behind the curtain

Its their competition at the end of the day… but I assume that there are going to be several bid groups just wasting their time and money
