your telling me Bears V Sea Eagles at North Sydney Oval is a no?
...... that would be one of the greatest games of the season, I'd go to that and I don't follow either club.
One game per year at North Sydney Oval (presumably vs Manly) is the most I'd allow - the team HAS to have as close to a "full schedule of home games in Perth" as possible.

Still, that one game vs Manly could be an "event game" with some marketing potential.. played the same time each season in retro jersey designs it might appeal to the heritage crowd.

IMHO North Sydney would get 3 games and Perth the rest. This article is great news. Perth is my number 1 choice. WA, like North Queensland, is about to grow exponentially.

They shouldn’t get any home games. If they want to play away at NSO and other teams agree, then that’s a different story

They'd be stupid if they didn't do that.
That game doesn't sell a whole franchise though.
There's an "icky" feeling about it all.

No reason they couldn't put on trials there, NSO is a perfect place for trials, not gameday tho, SFS for any team wanting to give the bears a home game, perth need to have a minimum 10+ games

Yeah.. it's not my *preferred* way of getting a Perth team in the NRL (nothing wrong with the Pirates bid as-is), BUUUUT...

If the story is true, and the WA Government are sounding out the NRL to ask "Is linking with the Bears the key to securing that next expansion spot?", then that's just sad - and it speaks volumes of how the NRL view expansion (ok if done through the filter of "heritage clubs".. hello Dolphins!)

It seems like all the different "factions" of the forum in the Expansion Era are all on the same page on this one.
That speaks volumes!!! Haha.

If a Perth had an NRL team, wouldn't it be better for them to play a trial game in Adelaide or Tasmania?

Appeal a bit towards other markets that aren't in the NRL, so the game's profile can lift there until they have teams of their own.

Whats perth have to do with Adelaide? Or tas? The only reason i suggested NSO was the NS bears link, otherwise, play in WA somewhere

No idea but WA wants a nrl team badly. I hope they get the best version possible without the bears preferably. Fact is WA is going to grow and grow. One team may be just a start. Regional Australia is on the cusp of huge growth. Clean renewable energy will drive it.

Sure. Growth will be in Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane

Perth red is going to get a hard on when he reads that

it says the wa government is willing to put money into funding a bid and ongoing financial support

that could make the bid much more competitive with nz2. Maybe the arlc should accept both bids with staggered start dates

nso oval should host no more than 2 games

they could even do a deal with some Sydney clubs to play their away games in Sydney at nso

Manly vs Bears at North Sydney Oval

Well, my first thought was for them to play a trial somewhere else in WA.. but from a casual glance at the population spread there, there doesn't seem to be any centres of reasonable size outside Perth to take a game to - so why not Adelaide or Tasmania?

If it puts Perth ahead of nz2 for team 18 it might be the way to go. Who knows if a new leader comes in and they decide to stop expanding after 18 teams

Craziest ane most insulting proposition ever.

@TBoon and I were roasted for suggesting Wests Tigers rebrand as the Western Tigers and take six games a year to Perth, yet there are people on here cheering a new licence being handed to the lame-arse Bears so they can do the same thing!

If the WA government is serious about this then they need to liaise with Wests Tigers and ARLC about relocating full time to Perth as that would be a far better deal for them - - and the game in general - - than this plot by the Bears. Tigers aren't getting a new stadium and Leichhardt shouldn't have a cent wasted on it. Play all 12 home games in Perth and have a deal with the ARLC that forces all away games against Sydney clubs to be held at Parramatta Stadium for Balmain fans. That way we get less games played at dilapidated suburban grounds and Parramatta Stadium gets more content. The games could be held as double headers alongside Parramatta Eels home games to increase attendance and cut back on production costs for Foxtel.

Huh????
Have you actually read the thread????
No one is cheering on the Bears being involved, quite the opposite.

It just sounds like the WA Government are keen to get an NRL team "by whatever means necessary" (to coin a phrase), and given how heritage/nostalgia etc helped Redcliffe over the line, they figure the Bears might just be their ticket.

Under the current funding model & the NRL's propensity for bailouts with little to no conditions (certainly not a relocation bottom-line), any talk of relocating the Tigers to Perth is pretty far fetched by comparison to piggybacking off the Bears brand.

However with EITHER option (relocation of existing Sydney club or joint bid with Norths), the concerns are exactly the same

- How many games does Perth get per year?
- What happens in cases of boardroom deadlock?
- What's the fate of the licence if everything goes bad?
