This bit intrigued me

However, the NRL is also reportedly considering a move to own and operate their own WA expansion team, although the Western Bears consortium is facing emergency talks with V’landys to save the bid.

Dude is trying to cover all bases lol….

I dont think the journo has any new info

Did Dolphins pay a license fee? If so, strange that the WA bid team thought they could get away with $0
Story goes that the WA team used the same consultants that helped Redcliffe in the "Brisbane 2 bidding round", and they prepared a robust business case based on the premise that - as was the case with the Dolphins - there would be no license fee.

Add to that, word is that the NRL gave no indication - or relayed no expectation - there would be a fee, until very recently.

As I understand it , bids have all been asked if they would be willing to pay a fee... WA said no.. perhaps other bids have expressed as they should what they would be willing and able to pay.
NRL: do you bring anything to the table?
WA: no

PVL playing hard ball, love it.

These blokes need to pay if they want to enter our prestigious competition. Looks like they thought they could wank their way into the NRL.
Redcliffe didn't - and from what I gather that was one of the assumptions in Perth's business case.

If the fee was a pre-requisite THIS bidding round, the NRL needed to say that up-front - so any bids could include that in their business case.

Did the NRL put that expectation there before the bids finalized & submitted their business cases.. well before the deadline?

If not, the NRL have not been operating in good faith.

When were they asked, though?

As they were preparing business cases, or after the bid deadline when all the documents were in?

Didn't the submission ask about licence fee?! Bringing in Sydney kings people seems to be an issue.

PNG is paying $60 million licence fee.

So Vlandys demanded a massive license fee after tender submissions were finalised. WA consortium has told him, quite rightly imo, to get fcked and NRL have pulled the pin on them. So rugba league, so Vlandys.
Good luck finding anyone else in WA to sink $60mill into this farce.
You are either completely delusional or you were somehow going to get a kick back if the Cummins group won the licence. Or maybe you just fancy him.

You should be happy to that it looks like Perth will get a team despite the obvious failures of the previous bid team.
