Far from it but they are competing with teams with 50-100 years of structures in place.

Any team coming in needs to have the foundations right. Going to Perth and not having the foundations in place is a waste of money.

Even another QLD team is going to produce players

true but the NRL has to come to the party too. Why would the WA govt want to invest in a team that might fail down the line and that the NRL might just abandon. NRL clubs don't have a great track record of being financially viable and the NRL isn't as generous as the AFL is to its clubs....

Cmon … there is nothing stopping NRL clubs targeting Union juniors from those schools now … you don’t need the Perth Bears playing in the competition to do it

Will playing one game a year there get them fully on board is the question

And on top of the union schools norths own juniors will go back to the levels of when they had an nrl club

There is always back and forth in these discussions. I am sure they will meet in the middle

Have the funding over a 10 year period as opposed to a lump some amount shows a longer term commitment.

The issue with NRL putting in a huge amount ( rumours are a $50m payment ) that the NRL money is the clubs money. They help 1 clubs others will want the same

and who could blame them. When nrl is putting in less than $1mill a year into WA grassroots an ask of $12mill a year seems ridiculous.

lets just compare to the tassie situation as that seems to be where the mystery $12mill figure has come from.

tassie govt is putting in $144mill to help fund the club and afl is matching with a $120mill contribution in grassroots and other areas plus a larger than avg grant.

nrl wants $120mill from wa govt. and is putting in what? $30mill or so start up costs And the standard grant? Hmmmmmmm.

So then get a fly in fly out team?

Go back to the Western Bears consortium and get a license fee that's agreeable to both sides and ask them to commit a reasonable amount to jnr RL.

10 year agreement:
NRL put in $1mill extra year to NRLWA
Club commits $2mil a year investment to pathways
WA Govt commits $2mill a year to NRLWA

That sees NRLWA funding quadruple and the club be committed to player development. Thats a 4:1 investment ratio for NRL.

Then we have the NS side of the partnership and the ramping up of their pathways to provide the club with players as well.

But that is all for the good of rugby league in WA and I very much get the sense all the NRL cares about is whats good for NRLHQ at this point.

There is clearly more needed than only $2m a year. There are 3 clubs advising on this subject
