not as badly as some. North Beach Sea Eagles have been around for 75 years maybe they should be given a license lol? Dumb old school parochial thinking.

Who is saying that?

What you will see on the TV is the Bears name and logo.

How many people will tune in for say Titans v Pirates?

The Bears is a known name that will attract the attention of casual viewers. Which is a good thing for a new club. If it is Perth or NZ is the main thing

not as badly as some. You only have to look at their first 4 years to see the potential if they can get their sht together.

Maybe they don't get it together.

Which is why it is a good idea to link with a Heritage brand if it is possible

Because a heritage brand doing sht doesn’t get low crowds?
hang on dragons avg’d 4 figures not long ago, as did manly.
no one in perth or Christchurch is going to follow the club just because they are called the bears lol

Neutrals tune in because they think it’s going to be a good game to watch or because it’s been hyped as a big game Or because the venue is predicted to be full so atmosphere will lift the game or because the game time suits their viewing . In fact a whole variety of reasons, the clubs name I’d suggest isn’t near top of list for a neutral.

It is not possible to watch all 8 games a round.

The new club will want FTA exposure etc

All these things are good with a known brand

Magic round aside

The 5 biggest crowds this year

Broncs v Cows 37k
Dragons v Roosters 35k
Broncs v Souths 32k
Souths v Bulldogs 30k
Parra v WT 28k

WT, Dragons and Dogs are terrible. Yet still can draw a crowd mostly based on the name. If that can be created for the new teams

Yes but WA is unknown territory, what were the Reds average crowds when they were in the NRL. V'Landys isn't a fan of WA possibly because he feels that they would be another Melbourne who after 24 years still don't have a local home grown player in their NRL squad
This is factually incorrect. Dean Iereima; whilst being born in Samoa, was brought through the Sunbury Tigers in the NRL VIC and is in Melbourne's current 30 playing group. Other notable players who have come through the NRL VIC junior system are Kelma Tuilagi (Casey Warriors), Mahe Fonua (Sth East Titans) , Jamayne Tonua-Brown (Altona Roosters), Charnze Nikoll-Klokstad (Altona Roosters), *Gareth Widdop (Altona Roosters), **Jeremy Smith (Altona Roosters), Young Tonumaipea (Nothern Thunder), and Richard Kennar (Northern Thunder).

*Gareth Widdop moved over from the UK as a teen and played his junior rugby league in Melbourne
** Jeremy Smith started his junior rugby league in Melbourne before moving up to Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast

unless their battling for 1&2, then guess what it won’t be lol. Melbourne v penrith has no excitement about it other than they are the two top teams in the comp.

Dolphins aren't a plastic club they have been in existence since 1947.

How does Titans fare in ratings/crowds? That is a plastic club and what you want to avoid with team 18

Broncos were a “plastic” club when they started. So were the Roosters, Rabbitohs & Bears for that matter.

But hey let’s just revive every old club back to NRL level to keep some dinosaurs happy.

And the roosters v dogs drew 9.5k, dragons v penrith 10k, dragons v cronulla 10.5k manly v canberra 7k etc
like I said there are many factors that make up tv viewing and live attendance and heritage seems to be a minor one.

Souths v Bulldogs was held on a Good Friday Public Holiday so probably explains why numbers were decent there, same as Roosters v Dragons for Anzac Day.

Yeh he’s cherry picked some event games to make an argument that heirtage brands somehow attract more supporters. The evidence would suggest otherwise. And not exactly sure how old a brand has to be to classed as heritage by the Sydney folk on here lol.
