Vlad won’t walk away from $400mill plus of govt money for the game in an afl state
cook won’t walk away from being the premier who brought the last remaining prof sport to WA
its just going to take time to get final agreements and work through the approval mechanisms of budget.
could have been sorted two months ago but hey ho. Nrl can’t be feeling that urgent about it.
Not under that proposal

The snippets Buff has shared are not new news, but rehashes of old articles. I'm confident the WA Bears will be announced soon

Put it this way. PNG’s in principle agreement supposedly happened months ago (August/September) and they’re only just ready to be announced (December). This was after almost 2 years of ongoing formal negotiations.

“Technically” the ARLC didn’t start “formal” negotiations with WA Government until mid October. When you put a wide lens on it, it has actually progressed quite quickly. What’s throwing people off is perhaps they’re taking into account the time frame of the WA Consortium’s start up to their subsequent rejection as part of this “drawn” out process length.

When it’s really only been about 6-7 weeks that have been properly factored in to time between ARLC and WA Government negotiations.
This is incorrect, the WA govt conversations with nrl commenced in October 2022 and have been ongoing since then. They are the ones who employed the bid consultants and led the conversations with the nrl.
We should count ourselves very lucky that McGowans successor is also a keen RL fan!

Nor should he. I would be demanding a brand new rectangular stadium with a roof too if I were him. No ifs or Buts. Otherwise Christchurch here we come baby!

The days where RL is begging with cap in hand are/should be well and truly over. Look at the AFL ffs, they demand and get whatever they want. Tassie is a perfect example. Brisbane will soon to be too. They are relentless and Govs just cave in eventually. We should be no different.

Period!
By the time stadium spending is included govts will have put in 1 billion into png

The wa govt is having a cry about spending an extra 12 million pa and their budget is in surplus by 3 billion dollars

No mate, you are incorrect.

This reiteration of negotiations where NRL control the club and WA Gov fund grass roots “formally” started 6-7 weeks ago.

Whatever was discussed prior wasn’t negotiations in any sense hence it lead to WA Consortium bid. Much like WA Gov had talks with Bears in May 2022 pre consortium, those talks were on the same level.

Nope, the wa govt has been in constant dialogue with the nrl since end of 2022 about what they were willing to offer to support a Perth clubs admission.

It’s the last 2 months it’s got serious as nrl has decided wa is it’s favoured choice for club 18 and renegotiations have taken place In an attempt by the nrl to first of all of get them to fund start up and license after the western bears bid was rejected (which was rejected outright, then massive grassroots funding which was rejected, and now get more out of them in the areas they are willing to fund (which seems like we are close to agreement).

To say they havent been talking until a few weeks ago is nonsense.
the wa govt has been very consistent since day one that they are not bidding for a club, they would be agnostic as to who would run the club and there committment would be in grassroots and infrastructure for the club Not running costs.

You realise that having dialogue or discussions and entering formal negotiations are two completely different things right?

You are smart enough to understand the inverted coma’s around the word formal yeah and what it’s alluding to? Or does it need to be specifically spelled out for you?

now You’re playing semantics, if beattie and Tinley in 2023 and early 2024 are discussing what the wa govt is willing to spend on is that “formal” or not?

Mate, you can ask someone what they’re willing to spend on something but that doesn’t mean you’re negotiating actual deals or contractual binding agreements with that person. It’s not semantics at all.

This is the case here. Sure, WA Gov and NRL investigated the case for a WA club. They identified the need and had multiple discussions around it but as far as going into actual negotiating where the end goal is a contractual agreement? That only formally started in October after the WA Consortium was rejected.
