No mate, you are incorrect.
This reiteration of negotiations where NRL control the club and WA Gov fund grass roots “formally” started 6-7 weeks ago.
Whatever was discussed prior wasn’t negotiations in any sense hence it lead to WA Consortium bid. Much like WA Gov had talks with Bears in May 2022 pre consortium, those talks were on the same level.
Nope, the wa govt has been in constant dialogue with the nrl since end of 2022 about what they were willing to offer to support a Perth clubs admission.
It’s the last 2 months it’s got serious as nrl has decided wa is it’s favoured choice for club 18 and renegotiations have taken place In an attempt by the nrl to first of all of get them to fund start up and license after the western bears bid was rejected (which was rejected outright, then massive grassroots funding which was rejected, and now get more out of them in the areas they are willing to fund (which seems like we are close to agreement).
To say they havent been talking until a few weeks ago is nonsense.
the wa govt has been very consistent since day one that they are not bidding for a club, they would be agnostic as to who would run the club and there committment would be in grassroots and infrastructure for the club Not running costs.
