Yes im happy for the bears return, if in nsw CC based, sharing games between SFS and CC only, mone of this roaming country business, also yes happy if the bears return thru a perth bid, but it has to be a perth based team only... not happy if they share games between sydney and perth... and also not happy if any home games are held at NSO especially... trials are fine... so read into whatever you want... your a twit, and think anyone positive about anything to do with sydney and their clubs is against your grain of thought
You're not in a position to call anyone a twit when you don't know the difference between "your" and "you're".

NSW needs less teams. Not more. There's not enough demand for 10 teams in NSW. Adding an eleventh is about as crazy and stupid as it gets.

I never said i was against the bears return, its all about how they return, i preferably would be ok with the perth bid, if they stay as perth, the odd token nso trial game, but thats it, and if the ARLC decided to go with central coast, i again wouldn't be against it as long as it was based in CC, and any sydney home games were at SFS only. Whatever you think of NSW and its potential 11 clubs is irrelevant to me, again i would value expansion outside of NSW first and foremost, being either PNG/Cairns, NZ2, Perth or Adelaide... or even another QLD side, but any of these are a better option than bears in sydney only...
And yes you're a twit, close minded and generally against any train of thought that doesn't align with yours

The thing with the anti Sydney rhetoric is Sydney fans in general support expansion

case in point the transformation of the nswrl into the nrl

the issue is due to super league we lost a lot of Sydney clubs and tribalism it created.

imagine kicking out the most successful Australian rugby league club.

expansion means adding new teams not killing off old ones. If a Sydney club has to be killed to allow for a new team to come in the net gain for rugby league is minimal

if the finances of the game are strong and the player pool ok whose to say they don’t end up at 24 teams down the track. There could literally be a place for everyone even Adelaide

they originally said the nrl shouldn’t go past 14 teams. Now we will have 18 and the player pool and games finances have handled it

the arlc is in a position where it can add teams valuable to broadcasters which will pay for the expansion clubs and also leave a profit back to the game

we all as rugby league fans should sit back and enjoy the ride

finally the game is back in growth mode

Behind the paywall this is what I could find-

Peter V’landys is often pulled up in the street and asked about the old North Sydney Bears.
“Wherever I go every third person asks me when are you bringing back the Bears,” V’landys said on Sunday when contacted in regard to a bold joint venture proposal between Western Australia and the Bears as the 18th team in the NRL.

While the two parties have a long way to go to reach any agreement, V’landys like the idea of an allegiance between one of the game’s most famous old clubs and Perth where there is huge government and corporate support.

“One thing I’ve learned in rugby league is that the Bears have an extremely popular brand,” V’landys said.

“However there’s already enough Sydney teams so doing it with an area like Perth makes sense.

Well, the idea is on his radar now - and given how he made good on getting a 2nd Brisbane team added (quibbles over whether he chose the right bid aside), once the guy gets hold of an idea he likes he has a tendency to make it happen.

Paywall. Does the article mention anything specific?
Peter V’landys is often pulled up in the street and asked about the old North Sydney Bears. “Wherever I go every third person asks me when are you bringing back the Bears,” V’landys said on Sunday when contacted in regard to a bold joint venture proposal between Western Australia and the Bears as the 18th team in the NRL.

While the two parties have a long way to go to reach any agreement, V’landys like the idea of an allegiance between one of the game’s most famous old clubs and Perth where there is huge government and corporate support.

“However there’s already enough Sydney teams so doing it with an area like Perth makes sense.

“You’re getting the best of both. A great brand and a new supporter base.”

Chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission Peter V'landys says its early days, but was excited by the idea of a Bears team in Perth. V’landys insists it’s early days and the NRL’s focus right now is on the Dolphins entering the competition next year as the 17th team.

However an 18th side would provide nine games each weekend and significantly increase broadcast revenue. It also opens up a new timeslot from Western Australia.

The fact the Warriors have struggled to make any real impact should rule out having a second team in New Zealand in the immediate future.

It would be worse having another struggling Kiwi team alongside the ordinary one we already have.

A WA-Bears joint venture will be judged very much on their business model rather than the emotion around the Bears.

V’landys knows the Bears remains a popular NRL brand, despite exiting the NRL in 1999 after merging with the Sea Eagles to become the Northern Eagles. “We went with the Dolphins for the 17th because they had a strong business case,” V'landys said.

“They were financially strong and we wouldn’t have to subsidise them.

“It’s about bringing in fans that aren’t currently engaged in rugby league because you don’t want a new team taking supporters from the current clubs.

“The Dolphins proved to us they weren’t going to take anything away from the Titans or Broncos.

“They did a significant analysis that showed they could bring 200,000 new fans to rugby league.

“We used that to generate more money from the broadcasters.

“Whoever gets the 18th team has to do the same. They have to engage new people to the sport.”
Well, the idea is on his radar now - and given how he made good on getting a 2nd Brisbane team added (quibbles over whether he chose the right bid aside), once the guy gets hold of an idea he likes he has a tendency to make it happen.

Haha of course Vlandys likes it, it’s another Sydney club added by stealth!

sums up RL and it’s current leadership that a genuine expansion markets best chance of a license is by resurrecting a long dead Sydney brand lol

I dunno man, I kind of read between the lines and he is basically saying that he wants new fans and the franchise needs a good business model above anything.
Does that not open up the opportunity for a WA stand alone consortium getting something together without the Bears?

That’s how I saw it too. I’d say he is looking at a model that is predominantly Perth utilising a strong traditional brand - the Bears. He is talking about corporate and government support in Perth as well. It’s early days and who knows where this will go but I’d love to see a Perth team.

Yeah, well the signs were there with Redcliffe being chosen as Brisbane 2 - Vlandys will expand the competition, but through a traditionalist lens.

To him, OF COURSE the Perth Bears ticks a lot of boxes.

Im exicited, Perth is getting some representation in the NRL, aren't you, means you get to see live games all season!!! Who cares if its the bears, i would much prefer it be the Reds, but if PVL likes it, he'll most likely push it thru asap, then can sell the 9th game, and we can look further down the line to the P.I.s or NZ2 after for 19th & 20th.. if perth gets this, its a win for RL, not because of the revival of the bears but because the league is back to being somewhat national again, and they'll be WA govt backing to help the jrs, you keep saying need more funding, lets pretend it wasn't the bears, and was sunshine coast falcons, or easts tigers for example, them coming to perth, and injecting themselves as the 1st grade presence, getting the top down approach, that the reds had in the past... good times for perth, if all parties swing this way... i just hope to christ the bears don't push this NSO agenda, perth needs 10+ games minimum

I think the last sentence is the big thing with this one MugaB. If they don’t push the NSO home game idea then it may work
