WA state election next year. Being able to say they have helped WA secure another major sports team will be a good thing, telling taxpayers they've spent $120mill on running it, less so! I can only imagine what a field day the AFL press will have here on that.
Like I said this Plan B was presented to WA Govt acouple of weeks ago, I was told at that time by the people making the decisions the WA govt 'are not in the business of funding or owning prof sports teams'. Unless he has been overridden by the Premier I'd say the odds of it happening are slim.
Tasmanian govt will invest around 12 million pa into the Tasmanian afl team on top of stadium upgrades

Why would afl fans be up in arms when this might happen in rugby league

The issue is will wa govt be putting more into the bid

The answer is yes

How they describe it is semantics

Commbank cost $360m (estimated at $300m originally) for something brand new with bigger capacity. Panthers $300m for essentially a new stadium.

So what kind of upgrade-only project is going cost more than $200m for just 8k additional seating capacity considering majority of facilities and structure remains? Again, whoever estimated that has rocks in their head. Seriously.
Panthers is only getting two stands done and one stand is quite modest

I think the private investors only wanted to funding the team.

not training venues, housing etc. govt are best to fund this stuff moving forward
I would be astonished if any private investor bidding for a team would build a stadium or even a COE. That would always be govt funded. Private money as you pointed out would be for the setting up and running the team and maybe minimal building infrastructure.

QBC Stadium cost $318m for the entire precinct (estimated at $250m for stadium alone) for something brand new.

I think when you look at how much Commbank cost and what Penriths significantly lesser build is costing its a good indication of actual build prices now.

Eh? it isnt 'just an additional 8k seats'. Its goigng to be the main stand with all the corporate suites, probably a top level members area with facilities, player and official facilities, media facilities etc. Think main stand at Commbank.
The East stand was just a basic build and cost $80-90mill 13 years ago!

As neither of us has seen what developments have been proposed in the $350mill estimate cost its very hard to draw any conclusions. But looking at what a basic Penrith 2 stand upgrade is costing I can imagine if the Govt is committed to getting HBF Park to a 30kish high quality stadium fit for next 25 years then $350mill isnt outrageous in todays building climate.

It’s true that that the info took an extra week or two to get out. However the point is it did get out. It’s not like I said something and it didn’t come to fruition, right?

I don’t control the narrative or who information is leaked too via media or timelines of information reveal nor did I ever claim any of that tbh. So fail to see how credibility is lost when things have happened as mentioned - just in a slower time frame?

All good, nothing against you I just failed to see where you’re coming from that’s all. That’s ok, we don’t have to understand where we are coming from tbh to want to see similar outcomes re: expansion.

As for your first paragraph. Knock it off, you don’t know who is who or who does what in life. Pure speculation on your part. Love ya.
All good.

Couple of things in that,
1. Its an AFL state desperate for a AFL club. WA isnt, pubic perception matters in a election year. Labor should be safe here for another term but pollies are naturally risk averse.
2. In Tassie levering an additional $120mill in Jnr funding from AFL and $750mill in stadium funding from Feds. From that point of view the state investment looks much more palatable.

At the moment all we've heard, true or not, is that the NRL wants the WA govt to give the club $120mill to help its operational costs plus fund significant infrastructure for the club, with the NRL putting nothing back into WA. A much harder sell to voters in an AFL state Id suggest.

Again it’s semantics

Say the extra money is for set up costs then

I actually doubt it’s for running costs anyway

More chance it’s to buy assets

The negotiations are dragging on though for what might be 50 to 70 million extra from the wa govt

The wa govt is doing this for tourism not because it’s a charity

And most of the money goes to improving its own asset which it will make money off

semantics matter in politics! The media has already called it running costs, that's not helping! WA govt already fund stadiums, centres for sports and jnr funding for other codes so its well within their remit to fund those things for RL. What they don't do is fund a clubs operational costs, and the odd time they have in moments of crisis have been bitten badly by it.

Im sure its going to happen, probably NRL owned with a board set up of WA people with someone from NS and NRL in all likelihood. Neither Cook or Vlandys want to walk away from this with egg on their face and NRL need it for tv negotiations.
Hopefully they give it the resources (from whoever!) needed to make it a success and they dont hamstring it from day 1.

Nrl might have a minority share but I doubt it

I expect it to be jointly owned by Sydney and Perth investors (and from what I heard they are putting in 50 million now not 30 million)

None of what you said makes any sense. It’s like you aren’t following what’s being stated and are just intermittently adding your 2 bobs and looking like a dimwit in the process.

Before yesterday I didn’t even know who you were on here because if you have ever had an opinion in the past it clearly wasn’t important enough to acknowledge it and therefore remember you.

At least Greeny is sometimes witty when he wants to be. You on the other hand are just a mushroom that’s sprouting up in cowshit.

Lol keep embarrassing yourself. You're such an expert that you haven't yet realised how much building costs have gone up in the last 6 years.

Hopefully one day you recover from the shame that you cost Bears fans their team back because you thought you were an expert.

Oh by the way, before you decide to make some assumptions, I also work in the construction industry.

The only thing I can take from this reply of yours is that you’re a moron who can’t read or keep up.

You actually think I’ve influenced NRL? You’re not worth responding to anymore until you start using your brain. You might be in the construction industry but you’re clearly a brickies labourer with how you’re presenting yourself.

You: the estimated cost of Perth upgrades is too high
Others: how would you know
You: look at the price of that stadium built 6 years ago

Don't worry, maybe the WA govt will come back and say "actually yeah that guy who hasn't seen the plans knows more than our experts who designed and costed it".
