Well that assumes the venue was never going to be upgraded.

It had upgrades last year to host the Women's Soccer.

WWC. There were no planned announcements after that as far as Im aware. It doesnt get an annual upgrade.

Those upgrades also made it possible to host Basketball. NBL round 1 was there. Can now host Internationals

You're mixing up HBF Park and HBF Stadium (to make it even more fun, theres also a HBF Arena - all in Perth.

Now if you are chasing after more major events like this than upgrades to the corporate areas is a likely next step.

Theyve got and use Optus Stadium for bigger events.

So while the timing to match the Bears works, If the Bears don't come it will still get upgraded in the near future

Probably not if it was upgraded last year and the teams using it dont currently require greater capacity. The only reason upgrades would happen in the near future is for a mens world cup or...ta da....an NRL team.

To be fair 300 million to spent on hbf park is an excellent investment

The club will get to play in a fantastic ground

And the commitment to build a coe (70 million) plus juniors is also to be applauded

It’s literally why they are getting a team ahead of png or chch

He's not the first .... heard there was a decent crowd rocking up at HBF Stadium down on the coast for the Dolphins/Easts game. They all missed most the first half when they eventually got to the right stadium.

The wa govt don’t seem to have a problem subsidising the north Melbourne afl club

We’ll see …my bet is he won’t get anything more out of the Government..
Soon as I read this I thought the same thing.

"Sources said the NRL’s request was rejected earlier this month and a task force, led by WA treasury officials, had now been established to negotiate with the NRL."

If treasury are involved you can forget about the Premier`s wishes to have an NRL team, they are only ever interested in the bottom line.
For me, palming off negotiations to treasury officials is a worrying development, hard nosed bastards.

Yeah I would of got them mixed up.

Maybe they do have Optus but that is too big for some, Like in the next few months I have concerts at GWS ground.

The Foo Fighters have played there, So some promoters have used the place before.

There are all sort of events that come with au upgraded Stadium that has existing tennants.

They have got an election in 4 months … Im not sure they will be revisiting their decision on the NRL team anytime soon …. might have a few more important things to work through

Which is why I doubt the commitment was every more than in a passing convo or something similar

I think there has been commitments to renovate the stadium and for the COE… this was also mentioned in the latest article about the $12m a year demand which the Govt rejected
