The bears are f**king useless as a brand. A bunch of no hopers who couldn't adjust to changing times and too dumb see that they were being ousted from the joint venture. Average age of supporters must be in their 50s which is coincidentally the same amount they have.
Bringing them back is the equal of Bringing back video ezy.

And if Red & Black Braggadocio doesn't like that summation he can take a hike.

Wa govt approached the nrl for a team

That doesnt mean they want to be held to ransom either.

You’ve already said they are investing hundreds of millions so clearly they want a team

Many have denied that has anything to do with the team. Its just a thing thats completely unrelated. /s`

How much they want a team will be shown shortly when they come up with even more money then initially

If you think they go higher after knocking back 12m already...thats some severe optimism

Yeah imagine the Dolphins with decades long production line of juniors and one of the strongest grassroots infrastructure in the country needing to pay the same as a substandard non rugby league heartland that will require heavy injections of resources to bring it up to speed.

It almost like the Dolphins had all these resources and infrastructure in place with astute rugby league operators behind it prior to being awarded a license and that negated the need to invest more into their catchment.

Almost like Queensland has a state body which already invests into its grass roots. I could be wrong though..

And yet even the Dolphins had to pay for additional funds for development.

And still no license fee.

Why is this such an issue that NRL are being smart about this?

I dont care if the NRL ask. But I also dont care if the WA Gov say no. Both parties have to do what they feel is right for them...which I guess is why they are still negotiating.

Their offer is zero
Pvl wants 12 million pa

They will meet somewhere in the middle

Sure it’s not what the afl did to Tasmania but it’s still good negotiating by pvl

As it should be.

Either they find a middle ground or the team goes somewhere else

But expanding by letting in a basket case defeats the purpose.. that is what the NRL is doing with this process

The Tasmanian afl team will lose over ten million dollars pa

The afl knew this and knew it would cost them a lot to support them

So they demanded one billion in stadium funding for two grounds and also the Tasmanian afl team get 12 million pa for ten years to cover their losses

Fumbler fans see this as good negotiation but when pvl wants to do the same it’s not

This is very puzzling

Dolphins not paying a fee isn’t an issue. They get into trouble? Sweet, they have $millions worth of assets they can sell. Clubs want a sweetener? Sweet, they produce top juniors that clubs can pillage if they like.

There’s mitigating circumstances that offset the need for a Dolphins license fee. The two entities aren’t comparable.

Just because you and a few of your tier 2 company mates sit around the fig tree reminiscing about the golden days when ugly Mark Soden scored a try that got you into 14th position doesn't mean the bears are popular.

They are so popular that V'landys has to pimp them out like 2 dollar hooker. No one wants a bar of the bears. Surely a self described ultra successful businessman like yourself can see they pong like a, well like a bear.

If Bears want back in, why don't they stump up the shortfall that the WA government won't provide?

Will be interesting if WA fails to proceed. Will PVL also abandon the Bears or force another expansion applicant to take them on.

So if Australian taxpayer money runs out for the PNG team after 10 years or earlier, do we start selling PNG government assets to keep the team afloat? Or will the juniors they will supposedly produce be enough?

The TasGov knew this and propsed the funding in its documentation sublmitted to the league for the license.

No they didnt. The stadium was a recommendation of the Tasmanian Governments License task force - the cost wasnt demanded by anyone in particular. It was the Tas Gov who proposed 715m for Maquarie, and the York Park development was separate to the license deal.

and also the Tasmanian afl team get 12 million pa for ten years to cover their losses

Proposed by the TasGovs License task force.

ok. Both things were proposed by the Tas Gov initially.

The Tasmanian Governments own business case recommended the new stadium, the Tasmanian Governments business case shows the Government would need to inject the funding. These were both in the license proposal from the Tasmanian Government which became the contract the AFL is holding the Government too - not least because its the proposal that the AFL sold its clubs on.

The AFL didnt demand a billion in stadium funding for two grounds. The Maquarie Stadium and location was proposed by TasGov. Likewise, the Gov proposed an enhanced York Park.

Not all expansion bids are comparable. Dolphins is a privately owned entity with privately owned assets which if sold, affects no one but the Dolphins.

Their value is very much determined by their assets and they have the ability to offset and use said assets as collateral should the worst happen.

You cannot compare them to WA or PNG or NZ. Commercially, they are worlds apart.

It's not a comparison in any criteria whatsoever.
The Dolphins are an asset to the NRL, WA will be a liability.
