Oh ye of little faith ;) Fantastic news. It's a fait accompli now and I will get a membership, all the way from the real South Wales, for Christmas if they're available.

What I think scuppered the '10/10' bid was how much the PNG secured and it opened the NRL's eyes to whether they are selling themselves short with the other bids.

Is there a categorical list of extras which has been attained by holding out from accepting the original bid?
Not really though todays media would suggest it is:
the money for the interim training facilities (the WB bid was going to cover that now govt)
The offer to match any grassroots funding nrl puts in to nrlwa
paying for some development officers
free stadium use for undisclosed period

the rest; stadium, cofe, schools program had already been committed according to previous reports.

the western bears bid had committed to fund 4 snr positions in NS pathways programs, don’t know if nrl is now picking up that cost or bears have lost out on that?

Appreciate some of the costs WA Gov is now picking up you state would have been paid by the consortium but weren't there questions around how liquid they really were? Was the stadium also going to be 27k? Also was RL scheduled to be on the high school curriculum? That seems to be a big get which you can't place a value on.

I think overall, the negotiations will do both the NRL and RL in WA better off. I found it rather unedifying PvL ridiculing the original bid, it set some people off too (understandable as I appreciate how invested you are in this) but you could see this was the opening gambit in a bigger picture. Once again, I think once PvL realised what he could get out of governments through the PNG bid, then the game slightly changed for WA and NZ2 also. This is the way PvL operates and gets results, which will hopefully also bode well for NZ2 and the next set of TV rights.

WA is the whole state tho, and they can represent it all, by calling it Western or west coast, by calling it Perth, it will alienate those on the outskirts or in places like Broome etc
I'd rather WA too but in all seriousness.. Panthers are followed by people out of Penrith, all Victorians would say Storm is their team and you certainly don't have to live in Saint George or Illawarra to follow Dragons.
It won't really make any difference.

A club based in Perth being set up and backed financially by the NRL and WA Govt means one thing,
There's a guarantee that it will not fail. This team will be there for the duration.
The best outcome possible for Rugby League fans in WA. Great news.

If you call it west coast you alienate all those people who don't live on the coast like Kalgoorlie etc. And what about the good people of Esperance who technically live on the south coast of Australia.

The West East North South Bears has a great ring to it. Although I would call them the Super Bears just so you're not alienating the kids.
