Another angle they don’t need apparently …according to our mate ,,,they are being attacked because of the involvement of the Labor Premier and Channel 7 protecting their AFL product .
I dont think that having a Sydney club forced on us is really an issue for The West. Like I said its A) Anti-Cook propaganda and B) Anti NRL propaganda. You can determine why.

Not really how public perception works though. People are generally too lazy to care about stats, they just look at the obvious.
The obvious, like RL being the most watched sport in Australia, like Vegas dominating the season launch and blocking out all other sports? Like NRL events Origin, Magic, All Stars and Pac Championships being amongst the most popular events in Australian sport and the AFL making knee jerk reactions to respond but ending up with attempted copies that pale in comparison?

You make it sound like the perception is that RL isn't dominating the narrative at the moment.

yes, we finally got to be like AFL and control the narrative put out by media. Was it worth $100mill+ a year, you be the judge.

That doesn’t answer my question though …why does the AFL get top media dollar and media protection/posiviity ? Even News Ltd didn’t provide this when they were a part owner of the NRL

NRL has never controlled the media like AFL has until the sweet covid deal when Vlandys took a poor deal and but got some sweet media traction. The change in media tone towards NRL over last couple of years is very very evident.
Nah pre super league the rl media was exactly like the afl

News Ltd hasn’t had a decent journo since chippy died

We are specifically talking about the perception, in Australia, of being a national sport.

I will judge Vlandys and his administration on the TV deal they do this year. I am openly a supporter of what Vlandys has done for the game, but I understand, as probably he does too, he needs to bring home and absolute banger of a TV deal

well ..you are the one saying it …so thought you might know …
Im just saying what everyone else is saying, and what you have questioned re The West and why it is leaning to negative stories about Perth getting an NRL club.
AFL has traditionally controlled the media and its narrative it puts out very well. This is just an example of that influence being used in Perth.

Yes, and we are dominating the narrative at the moment. AFL have been a reactive passenger since the NRL returned earlier after the COVID break
Again none of what you have listed, as positive as they are for the game, is changing the publics perception of NRL as a national game in Australia.
Adding Perth and eventually Adelaide and having them be well supported and successful will do that. But it will take a long time, the public perception that NRL is a 2 state game is well ingrained and will take some shifting.

Does it matter? Well NRL is waking up to the fact that maybe it does, or so it seems.

You are the only person saying it from what I can see …the other Perth guy is talking about negativity about the Bears because of the Sydney connection …

I’m asking about the AFL media and you respond about the AFL…. I suspect that it’s part of the missionary like zeal that seems to be connected with everything in that sport … they are defending themselves like it’s the Muslims fighting the Crusades …couple that with the overall negativity that Perth has with anything from the East and there is probably little doubt the NRL is pissing into the wind

They may not need it but it's been presented to them on a platter and they'll use it.
Interestingly I havent really seen any anti Sydney club to Perth rhetoric for a long time. I think early days when it was all about Bears demanding non negotiables we saw it, but in recent times since Bears backed off I haven't really seen anything that's been anti Bears brand being used in Perth. Even The West hasn't really picked up on it in recent times.

Id say The West have toned it down since the election victory, they went hard in their anti Cook stance during election but since they know they have had to pull it back a bit. There was nothing in this weeks article that was really critical of the prospect and was more about getting Cook to say what we would be spending. I'm sure when that comes out they will negatively spin it though.

You think a ch7 owned Liberal leaning news outlet isnt being influenced by those two things to be anti a Labor premier pet project to bring an NRL club to Perth?
Theyre not doing it because they flipped a coin to see if theyd support the idea or not and it came up tales lol

4 years to the next election … and the Libs aren’t winning the next time either …so good luck with the campaign against Cook …

I suspect now it’s more to do with the infidel NRL at the gates …

It may have subsided a bit but it will never go away, especially if they start with a few lean seasons.
