TBH, the standard of the NRL is so shit that I barely watch it anymore.
Most people are too afraid of sticking their head above the parapet to admit it, but the six again and other associated rules have completely rooted the game. The NRL has gone from debatably the tightest competition in the world, to an ungovernable mess where the rules make refereeing oversight literally impossible.
The NRL is basically just an all flash, no substance, product for undiscerning consumers these days, and if we're being really honest the NRL is intentionally tailoring itself for specific demographics in NSW and Qld that I'm not a member of.
Wigan vs Leigh and Hull FC vs Leigh in round 1 and 4 of the Super League are comfortably the highest quality games of RL I've seen in years, which is quite an indictment on the state of the NRL IMO.
There's also just a lot more interesting shit happening around the world of sport in general at the moment. Like who gives a shit about the PVL's self-promoting antics when the NBA is looking at launching a European league, the NFL is expanding their international footprint year on year, the AFL's quirky expansion shenanigans, etc, etc.
If you read my last post closely it's clear that I haven't given up on the Perth side yet either, but honestly, for both Perth and the sport's sake, I hope it falls through for the time being. Better to leave it and get it right in the future than knowingly push ahead with a bad situation just to get it done as quickly as possible. Perth doesn't need the NRL as much as the NRL needs Perth anyway, so be patient, the NRL will be back sooner or later, and hopefully with a better offer next time.
