Graham Murray would have been employed by some Sydney club if News didn't save the Cowboys.

Most clubs in the comp have either a pokie palace pouring money into the joint, or a rich owner topping it up. Not sure how News is any different
Graham Murray was working as a school teacher when he was hired to coach the Cowboys, just 3 rounds into 2002 season because the original coach, Murray Hurst, was sacked after 3 terrible performances. Graham Murray was sacked just a few months earlier by the Roosters and there weren't any other coaching gigs available. The Cowboys were his lifeline back to the NRL.

Hardly relevant what he was doing at the time
You were sooking about no one propping up your club like News did the Storm, the fact is News propped up your club and is the only reason it existed as far as hiring Graham Murray

You said he would have been coaching in Sydney if it weren't for News Ltd. That's BS, as he wasn't employed with any other club and was working as a school teacher. So yes, it is relevant.

How do you know the club wouldn't have hired him without News Ltd?

He was the best coach unassigned to any club at the time and the team wasn't gelling under Murray Hurst. He wanted to coach and the Cowboys wanted some one with his credentials.

How do you explain Tim Sheens signing with the Cowboys for 1997?

Not sure if memberships are a real metric for actual supporters, im not a member of any club, but i still watch them and are a fan.
Plus isn't the SCG trust members added to that "15k" for the rorters, surely you'd be lucky to see a half of that turn up to the games last year

why arent you a member if you’re a fan?

News Ltd did own the Cowboys for about 7 years and prevented them from folding because they were a basketcase! In which time they signed Jonathon Thurston. Who went on to feature in 2 Grand Finals, winning 1. If you recall.

ssshhh dont burst his anti Melbourne bubble lol
I first thought he was being funny given cowboys wouldn’t exist now without news ltd bailing them out, but then I remembered who it was and realised he probably doesn’t even realise the stupidity of his statement lol

Perth is the biggest no brainer, it’s criminal there isn’t a team in the comp atm

Whilst a new club would be ideal I’ve said many times (and been shouted down on every occasion) that a decent part of me wants the Tigers to move there

why arent you a member if you’re a fan?
Time, work, kids, no. Of reasons
Id love to throw around extra money on my sports club if i could honestly use the membership to its fullest, i generally go to a match maybe 2-3 times a year, and love to go to more, but if depends on the schedule, and what plans i have on the weekends, it's another reason that tv becomes the easier option, especially with two young kids, also working nightshift, but if i did get a membership, I'd try to make every home game i could, and i just know right now, with my current lifestye, its not a priority, maybe when both kids are over 5 years old, ill sign up, pay the fare, and enjoy

Both you and adamkungl will have a point when you can prove that $100m was gifted to North Queensland Cowboys over 20 years. You both know that never happened, so knock it off with your silly comparison. It's like comparing apples with oranges.

Cowboys did experience financial trouble in 2001, chiefly because we were left to fend for ourselves in a competition that treated us like outcasts. We weren't broadcast on C9 in Sydney until 2004, FFS. And you have the audacity to whinge about the Storm's coverage on Ch9!

News Ltd didn't give us the special treatment and leg ups that they reserved for the likes of Brisbane and Melbourne. If you and adamkungl think otherwise then you're away with the fairies. They saved us from going over because they wanted a 14 team competition and couldn't afford to lose another club in RL heartland. They recognised that unlike Perth, Townsville and the rest of North Queensland is rusted on RL country and important to the game. It has produced many great players over the years and wasn't helped by News Ltd waging a war on the competition in the very season the club made its debut.

News Ltd didn't give us extra money to hoard the best juniors from Brisbane and Sydney. The team that was developed by Graham Murray was based around local talent such as Paul Bowman, Aaron Payne, Ty Williams, Matt Sing, Mathew Bowen, and Kevin Campion. A few players were bought, but none of them were superstars. Paul Rauhahi, Luke O'Donnell, Justin Smith, Glenn Morrison. A lot of the players we recruited were cast-offs from other clubs, like Neil Sweeney and Steve Southern.

Thurston was unwanted by the Broncos and stuck behind Sherwin and Anasta at the Dogs. Graham Murray offered him a chance to play 5/8 on a decent deal, so like any young half who is playing off the bench at a club that has two established first-graders in the halves, he took it. No one knew he was going to be as good as he became. He was shifted to halfback midway through 2005 because he was carving it up so well and Brett Firman, who was a cast-off from another club, didn't do enough to keep the 7 on his back.

I think it says it all that News Ltd culled the Reds 2 years after bailing them out in 1995, but kept the Cowboys around long enough to tidy up its office and become one of the most stable clubs in the competition. After 13 years since News Ltd exited the Cowboys, we are one of the more financially stable clubs. Perth isn't viable. News Ltd realised this and acted accordingly.

You know I worked night shift and rotating shifts for 30 years, it very hard to go to the football.
Not to mention that 12 hour nights shifts drained a lot out of me.

Why not get a lower level membership? Even the lowest level of membership is still supporting the club in some way and showing your loyalty

Funny that to be a fan, you HAVE to buy membership, I've supported the panthers for over 30 years, i buy all their merchandise, have over 30+ jerseys for myself, and also another 15 for the family, kids have varied pink jerseys, im basically a walking penrith billboard most days, ive spent plenty already, i don't think i NEED to buy membership, as if it were a licence to support. Like i said, whenever I can afford it and have the time to be able to see the games, I'll get membership, but if i don't see the value in it, if im only stopping by 2-3 games a year, might not even be at Penrith, some Leichardt games i attend, aswell as Bankwest and ANZ, all depends on who's versing and the schedule

Not saying anyone has to was more just curious why not - but as you said you've bought plenty of merch and other things so are still supporting your club both financially and as a fan

Maybe the measurement for most fans should be on tattoos
Not sure if this is sarcasm, or you actually really mean it, either way roosters fans actually giving other clubs grieve over attendance and memberships is pretty funny since after winning 2 premierships, the current metrics are woeful, even after going back to back or maybe thats just the ceiling of what they can achieve here in Sydney, maybe instead of trying to relocate or ridicule your neighbouring clubs, pick up and represent elsewhere you can grow

The definition of entitlement it’s a trait common in some Roosters supporters.
