Not sure if this is sarcasm, or you actually really mean it,

Just a joke, settle down

either way roosters fans actually giving other clubs grieve over attendance and memberships is pretty funny since after winning 2 premierships, the current metrics are woeful, even after going back to back or maybe thats just the ceiling of what they can achieve here in Sydney, maybe instead of trying to relocate or ridicule your neighbouring clubs, pick up and represent elsewhere you can grow

The metrics are fine.
You can dance around it all you want with nonsense about local juniors and SCG Trust members, but business matters in professional sport. Clubs out in the suburbs, in 20k capacity parks, will find it difficult to keep up with the Souths, Eels, Roosters, Bulldogs, Broncos, Storm in the 2020s. Regional teams (Knights, Cowboys, Raiders, Titans, Penrith) will attract dedicated local funding to keep them competitive. This isn't a personal attack, it's just looking at what's already happening and putting 2 and 2 together.

We still own it...and still get more fans to the game..

This has been true twice this decade. Congrats.

I'd only admit Perth as the 18th team under these terms.

  1. The WA GOV makes it compulsory for all secondary schools to add RL to their sports curriculum. Primary schools add TRL. It's important that kids are introduced to the game from a young age.
  2. The ARLC announces the WA team 5 years before its admission so it has time to build the infrastructure needed to be successful.
  3. The WA GOV signs an agreement to upgrade Perth Oval whenever repairs are needed, at no cost to the ARLC.
  4. The WA GOV agree to upgrade the facilities of local RL clubs, wherever repairs are needed.
Do all of that and the team will have a chance of surviving and establishing a strong player base.

The NSW gov doesn't even do this? why would you expect WA to?

The others are good points, upgrading every junior RL facility is probably a bit too much to expect, a "RL Training & Community Centre" (basically a centre of excellence) like the Vic gov is building in Broadmeadows could be a compromise

I'd also like to see a dedicated rectangular ground in the same precinct as Optus, like aami/mcg, SFS/SCG, and AO/new proposed stadium - having all these facilities togther in the one spot close to the cbd is a massive advantage for a city

If we want the game to succeed in new markets then when we need to get the game to kids while they're still open-minded enough to give 'other' games a go.

The Storm have shown that it's not enough for the NRL to rig the competition so that the expansion side always wins. All that has done is make Melbourne everyone's 'second team', and only while they're winning, which isn't enough to make serious inroads. You need grassroots development to get kids playing the game.

RL doesn't need Perth. If a licence is going to be given to Perth, at the expense of a heartland area that is far more deserving of a team, then Western Australians need to give us something in return to make the investment worthwhile.

Victorians need to start pulling their weight. They take and give nothing.

well let’s set that bar for every club, unless your state govt is goiNg to deliver all that you’re out lol. Will make for a small comp though.

what nrl should have done in 2013 was begin that conversation and worked with the state govt to have x y and z in pace ready for a perth team admission on 2018. Despite the millions the WA govt has spent on RL in last 7 years vlandys is now telling them they are a waste of time, that is going to helpful lol

NRLWA def need a dedicated building, at moment they are camped u der the stand at hbf in a couple of shtty offices.

sadly a new rectangular stadium boat has sailed for some considerable time. They spent $125mill on hbf just a few years ago and won’t stop using it. Hbf is actually closer to the city than Optus as well (2.3km compared to 6.6km to northbridge which is our main entertainment area) . Needs a new corporate West stadium and roof on south stand to finish it (was designed to take one). that’s what nrl should b asking for if they are going to put a club here. Current capacity is about 21.5k nearly all seating. Get it up to around 26k with a new west stand and will be spot on. The New east stand is brilliant.

Lets just say the WA Gov did add RL to the curriculum of every school (it'll never happen and shouldn't be expected especially since this isnt even the case in NSW)

Who is going the run it? The NRL doesnt have enough staff in affiliate states nor give enough money to NRLWA to do so

we aren’t Russia or China, no govt is ever going to dictate to schools what they have to offer in their sports curriculum!

perth doesn’t need RL, it’s got two huge afl clubs, a successful basketball club, an aleague club, a weird union club a cricket side , a netball team and numerous other sports you can follow. If RL wants to be Australias #1 football code it needs a decent presence in every state. Afl know this.

If the NRL wants RL played in schools then the best thing they can do is set up an Auskick style program and approach the schools, im sure most would accept. "Forcing" a state government to just up and add a sport to the curriculum without any funding, equiptment or staff acheives nothing

we have RL played in schools, we have a shs program. We also have touch and leaguetag played in schools. We just need more funding to grow it.

Sadly union getting $7mill boost from Twiggy is going to make it much harder for NRLWA given they run on an oily rag.

good to see, theres not much more the WA gov can do, its all in the NRL's hands to increase funding if they want it to take off

I do still believe though that the NRL needs to consilidate its non-contact varients into the one, distinctively league, version - whether that be touch or tag. Come up with a clever name and/or branding and push it heavily for the younger kids/primary school.

this labor govt was the most RL friendly govt I’ve seen since moving to WA twenty years ago. Sadly Vlandys dumb as f**k comments have now pssed them off and all that good Will has gone. Shame as they are a shoe in to get another term.
