People got jack of the empty promises and being used as an ATM, that lead them to get embittered with the league and the parade of clubs that come through, and they started losing interest in the matches and turning on the game.

That's exactly what happened in Tasmania and Canberra, it's exactly what I said happened in Tasmania and Canberra, and it's exactly what I predicted would happen in Perth given time (though I admit it happened in Perth way quicker than I would have predicted).

The only reason you can't see that is because you didn't want to hear it before so you refused to listen and read into it what you wanted to hear instead of what was actually being said.
So frankly you were warned, it bit you on the arse, and now you are trying to save face.

Your ignoring that when we had that discussion you were talking about clubs like Souths in Perth, eels in Darwin, gws in canberra etc building a membership and fanbase in those cities and then pulling out. What’s happening in perth has got bugger all to do that with that conversation.
thats because of the narrative the nrl has been peddling, not the fact we are getting visiting teams. If nrl had come out at any point and said “we are not looking to expand to perth for at least ten years but we have a strategy to build the game there that looks like this and in the mean time we will guarantee three nrl games a year for the fans to enjoy” no one would have a problem. But that’s not what’s happening, we kept being told we were in with a good shot, fill the stadiums and show us you want a club, perth is important to us, spend your money on elite jnr pathways and it will support your chances etc etc. now we are all just fcked off because we feel we’ve been led down the path and now it’s just about the nrl and clubs eeeking rocking up here and taking as much money out of the govt and fans in the west as they can without any real plan to grow things here so we are a walk in for expansion if it ever happened.
That’s not about taking games to places that will never have a team, it’s about conning us that had a hope that it was some part of a bigger vision for one day having a club here.

Mate, it's the exact same thing that happened in Tasmania and Canberra, and it's happened for the exact same reasons.

As I said before; "the only reason you can't see that is because you didn't want to hear it before so you refused to listen and read into it what you wanted to hear instead of what was actually being said."

The real question now is if the government will get the shits with the NRL like Tasmania has with the AFL, and if so how long will that take, or will sycophants in power allow the NRL to walk all over them like Andrew Barr allows the AFL to do in Canberra. Hopefully it's option A.

i guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one lol

Vlandys comments pssed of this govt big time, especially as they have forked out big in recent years for nrl marquee games (to the tune of $10million I heard). Fortunately our state ceo has a good relationship with them so grass roots is still getting supported,

ideally nrl would have a perth expansion plan and be negotiating with this govt for a new hq for NRLWA and the nrl club and second phase of hbf stadium upgrades as part of a guaranteed entry in 202x. Sadly with vlandys in charge for another 3 years at least there’s no hope of that.

How serious were V'landys comments though? We know he likes to just stir up AFL supporters but also pander to the sydney centric dinosaurs who follow League. I doubt he is really that close minded about expansion....

theyve done that! The backers, WA govt and John sackson met with the team conducting the expansion review in 2019. Sadly Vlandys then came in totally ignored the work going on and went rogue with his brisbane certainty and afl waste of money bs! There is zero point in putting a bid together when there is no expansion process or bids called for and when the chair is saying never going to happen, business people have better things to do with their time!
We went there in 2012 and Grant told us to stop wasting our time, he said concentrate on youth development and that will see us get a club. I was part of that bid team so know first hand what went on. Vlandys did t even have the decency to let Cummins know in person!
https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/league/118397458/perth-takes-fight-to-nrl-over-expansion-snub

fans here are sick of it, even I can’t be arsed going to this years nrl games if it wasn’t melbourne playing in one of them. We all feel like nrl is using us as an atm and we’re getting nothing in return.
Perth deserves a spot in the NRL based on how hard they've built the game from the bottom up over the last 20 years. I don't see why Perth and Brisbane 2 can't come in at the same time. It would be a great way of establishing goodwill in Perth after it was snubbed by AwFuL.

he doubled down on them so if not serious then It’s even worse! He’s caused great harm for nothing more than a sound bite if that’s the case!

Its a throw away line, he loves giving it to the ALF fans, if anything it shows that if the fans of AFL embraced league when there is an exhibition 1st grade game, then they'd seriously consider it, but they flock for the eagles and dockers, every week and don't pack out when NRL brings in one 1st grade game, it makes sense to me, those that do show up tho are great but just not enough

realistically and ideally we would have a three year lead in time. We do need a decent hq and govt lobbying to deliver that then a year or two in a reserve grade to start signing some decent 20 year olds and a bit of time to start signing up off contract players and a coach over the two year lead in. But it should start now so we can be ready to enter two yeas after brisbane 2 and sell that ninth game content to someone.

Brisbane 2 - 2023
WC Pirates - 2025

you can’t get more than Sell outs lol. It’s only in recent times the fans have had enough and can’t be fcked. When we thought we were supporting the game for something we sold out nib year after year despite most in attendance being neutrals and the game not meaning much other than a chance to watch some nrl. Perth's crowds were very strong until a couple of years ago, which probably shows people are fed up of not having a team of their own. We're blessed to have a non-traditional RL city invest in RL and want to field a team of its own in our competition. Opportunities like this don't come around very often and we would be stupid to knock it back. You can say good bye to an Adelaide bid ever popping up if Perth keeps on getting rejected. An argument can be made for the 17th licence to be handed to Perth and the 18th to Brisbane.

It would be great if Perth Oval was sold out every time 2 non-Perth RL clubs played there, but it's a bit harsh to expect the locals to rush to these games when none of the heartland areas are supporting their own teams in massive numbers.

I couldn't care less if Perth, NZ 2 and Adelaide average less than the league. All I care about is giving expats in these cities a chance to attend NRL and the local kids an option of playing our game.

Nope, you've tacitly admitted I was right multiple times by repeating back to me what I predicted would happen in different words.

nope you were talking previously about Ill feeling to clubs who pull the plug after x years in a city, perth is totally different, the despondency and frustration is coming from the head office leading us down a dead end path. Like I’ve said none of us would be having this ill feeling to the game if we hadn’t been made false promises, or at least indications of such, and if three games of nrl a year was all we were led to expect for the city, and if clear signs the nrl was putting back in what it was taking out, no one here is upset at Souths not playing in perth this year, which is what your previous argument for not having games in non nrl locations was suggesting. We are upset because we’ve been told we are a “waste of money”. That’s got nothing to do with on the road games.

I'd really love to see the ARLC put money towards entering the West Coast Pirates in the QRL's U16s, U18s, U21s and Queensland Cup competitions. It will produce more players who will reach NRL and add value to the Queensland Cup. Players from Queensland would benefit from having the option of relocating to Perth, where there might be better business opportunities for them. It will help improve the quality of RL in WA and give the local RL community the chance to see high quality football. I'd go for a holiday to Perth to watch my team play there, especially if there was a Magic Round involving all teams.

You had your chance last year at the Nine tournament, your team won it too
