So besides maybe saving $100K is there any other reason we would let Walsh go?

f**k. Didn't know he was on that much. ARticle says $300k for 2 years and he is in to his 2nd so i was just assuming thats about how much he had left on it.

At the very least 150K I'd say.

He was in a bidding war with the Bulldogs when we signed him to the deal.

And he has been one huge expensive waste of money.

Wonder what our plan is if any to do with that money..

Perhaps nothing or top up someone for this year and allow for more next year.

Good luck to Walsh, I love his ability to hold the ball up and put a second rower through the line.

But I think Dureau is better overall.

Yeah that was when he did it anywhere else on the field except 10 metres out and pato was sent strolling over for a try. Then every ref could somehow see a forward pass.

And I'd just like to say - I told you all in 2004 that the coaches were mad for replacing Scotty in SG Ball with Walsh - Scotty was always better.
Nah nah nah.

I'm personally happy with the news... he looks all right from what I've seen of him.

But have we got ourselves another Joe Williams though?

Walshy is injury prone - but you won't find a guy with his head screwed on more.
He has a 40 year old brain in a 21 year old body.

a 21 yo woman's body, that is...

nah he has bulked up a heap.

he is a bona-fide 7, if that is what you are after, that is what you have got.

AAP said:
Walsh leaves Knights for Panthers

Penrith have announced that Newcastle halfback Luke Walsh will join the club for the rest of the 2009 NRL season.

The Panthers have struggled for a permanent halfback since Craig Gower's departure at the end of 2007 and Walsh, once considered the heir apparent to Andrew Johns, has fallen out of favour at the Knights.

Walsh signed a two-year $300,000 deal with Newcastle in 2007 but will complete the contract at Penrith after the Knights agreed to a release on Monday.

He will commence training at Penrith on Tuesday.

"Walsh is a 22-year-old halfback and is a player I feel will be a great acquisition for the club," chief executive Michael Leary said.

"Luke realises he will have to force his way in to the top squad but is happy to be given the opportunity.

"He also gives the squad depth in an area I believe we are lacking in at the moment."

The Panthers lacked direction in the halves in last Saturday's 18-10 loss to Cronulla as young No.7 Jarrod Sammut inexplicably kicked the ball on the first, second or third tackles to hand possession back to the home side
