30-all, first draw in reserve grade this season. I was going but had the tailend of an early season cold/flu.

Plan 100 percent to be at Nth Syd Oval next Sunday.

I went to the game (it’s my local).

Bears had unbelievable line speed for most of the game without being pinged much (literally - I don't believe they were even close to being onside for much of this one), particularly the middle 40 of the game (we were getting pinged an awful lot during this period also). Our forwards (and defence) were just far too good though. Some brutal post contact work. We had a long, grinding period during that time, defending mostly in our own half thanks to penalties but pulled away a lot after that period, when we got some more of the ball.

Tui was good… provided the final touch to set up Allwood’s try after a massive carry from Bunty (also very good). Also scored 2 himself, one a long range intercept. Started actually floating around the field towards the end of the game too.

Lino’s kicking game compared to Kelly was another huge difference… Kelly scored the Bears try I think, but he’s honestly not even NSW cup standard - how the hell has that guy played almost 50 games of NRL?

Tevaga got injured early, ankle I think, was walking on it but didn’t look happy.

Ogden was very good today also, made a long break after a Bears play broke down in the first half and generally looked strong in both attack and defence.

Gubb played (so Matulino looks to be in on Tuesday, as as already been pointed out) but it should be his last game for quite a while - he did a very bad lifting tackle (approaching a spear). With his record I don’t expect him back anytime soon. Even better news than the result, that.

Amusingly, they spent a bit on this ground to upgrade it (not finished yet)… but were having major trouble with the clock on ground, and seemed to have some sort of issue before kick off as well. Everyone was left standing around for what seemed like a few minutes while the refs explained whatever was happening to the teams.

Great write up Jaseg. Thanks.

Here's the NSWRL match report as well.

http://www.warriors.kiwi/news/2017/04/23/_isp_match_report_un.html

The Vodafone Warriors extended their unbeaten run to eight games claiming a strong 24-8 victory over the North Sydney Bears in their eighth-round Intrust Super Premiership clash at North Sydney Oval today.

The opening 40 minutes of the contest was hard-fought as both teams were unable to do significant damage on the scoreboard.

It took a Tuimoala Loholea intercept in the second half to swing the momentum of the contest.

The Bears continued to work hard for field position but were unable to execute their constant attacking raids and the Vodafone Warriors eventually ran away with another victory that was inspired by nifty halfback Mason Lino.

Although the score did not reflect the Bears' incredible goal-line defence, the Vodafone Warriors proved too strong with their abundance of strike-power out wide.

In the opening two minutes of the game, a break against the run of play from back rower Ofa Ogden put the Vodafone Warriors in good field position to claim first points of the afternoon but they were unable to capitalise as a Lino grubber was well contained.

It wasn't long before the Vodafone Warriors were able to draw first blood, with Lolohea finishing off a classy backline movement thanks to a well-timed cut out pass from Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad.

The Vodafone Warriors continued to apply constant pressure on the Bears' goal-line with astute kicking from Lino and Nicoll-Klokstad earning consecutive drop-outs. Despite the continuous attacking raids, the Bears' defence held strong as the battle for field position was thoroughly against them in the opening 15 minutes.

It took a while for the Bears to find some momentum in the contest after their consistent defensive efforts on their goal-line. It was Dane Nielsen who gave his team a much-needed spark with a brilliant offload to Eli Levido, only for winger to be brought down 30 metres out from the line.

The Bears received a penalty for a support player being held back but were unable to take advantage with a clumsy knock-on moments later.

Soon after a penalty on the halfway line gave the Bears a chance to earn themselves the perfect reply, and Luke Kelly stood up and delivered with a crafty show-and-go helping him cross the line. Levido converted the try and the score was set at 6-4 with just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half.

The Vodafone Warriors continued to dominate possession and the Bears could hold on for only so long with the visitors finally finding a breakthrough. Bunty Afoa made a short burst down the right-hand side, before offloading to Lolohea who then found Matt Allwood to cross for the Vodafone Warriors’ second try.

Lino missed his second sideline conversion of the day and the score remained at 8-6 with just four minutes to play in the half.

The final stages of a gritty first half soon came to an end with the ladder leaders holding onto their slight two-point advantage.

The opening sets of the second half were very similar to the first 40 with both sides looking to stamp their authority with some charging runs up the middle third. An obstruction penalty from the Vodafone Warriors on their goal-line allowed Levido to add another two points, drawing the game level at 8-8.

Nicoll-Klokstad was having a strong game at fullback with plenty of evasive runs and threatening with the ball in hand but he failed to catch a scorching bomb and gifted the Bears a set on their goal line.

The Bears earned themselves some repeat sets throughout a dominant five-minute period that saw them test the Vodafone Warriors' defence but it was to no avail as Lolohea plucked an intercept and ran 90 metres to score next to the posts. Lino converted for the first time of the afternoon, claiming a much-needed 14-8 advantage after 60 minutes.

The Vodafone Warriors were full of confidence following the breakthrough try and they soon found themselves in perfect position for back-to-back tries after the Bears failed to clean up a bomb.

It didn't take long for Lino to again be the key orchestrator with a pin-point grubber kick giving left wing Junior Pauga a try in the corner.

The Bears continued to fight their way back into the contest and were determined to heavily compete in final 15 minutes of the game and they somehow found possession after they pushed the scrum and won against the feed.

Despite the Bears' resilience, the Vodafone Warriors earned themselves a final try to Albert Vete to run away with a strong 24-8 victory to continue their undefeated start to their season.

Thanks, all stream of consciousness stuff from what I could remember after I got home. I saw your post above and figured you must not have made it to the game.

Jazz went off early, injured (ankle/leg).

Charnze was ok... some pretty strong runs but a bad drop from a high ball (we defended it). Got involved a lot though, and no soft stuff... kept putting his body on the line / taking hard runs. Even had one or two attacking kicks.

As for the Sipleys - Tof didn't seem to play loads of minutes, Pat played more (which is I think the usual this season?)... both of them looked brutal, at the heart of our forward play. Pat in particular... that fella needs first grade. Or rather, our first grade side needs him. Carrying tacklers for post contact metres at will, and very solid in the tackle. Doesn't seem to actually break tackles or even look to offload... just gets extra metres every time and concentrates on the play the ball speed.

The unbeaten Vodafone Warriors face their toughest test of the season so far when they take on the Wyong Roos in Sunday’s ninth-round Intrust Super Premiership encounter at Mount Smart Stadium (11.45am kick-off).

While the Ricky Henry-coached Vodafone Warriors lead the competition with seven wins and a draw, the Roos are just one point behind them with a 7-1 record.

Henry today named a settled line-up for the contest following Sunday’s strong 24-8 win over fourth-placed North Sydney.

After losing 10-32 to Penrith in the fourth round, Wyong has won four on the trot beating Illawarra 48-14, Wentworthville 30-12, North Sydney 34-6 and Newtown 19-16.

As the Sydney Roosters’ feeder club, the Roos boast plenty of threats including Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck, Lattrell Mitchell and Jayden Nikorima.

Meanwhile, there are some changes to the Vodafone Junior Warriors' squad for their ninth-round NYC encounter with the Sydney Roosters on Sunday (1.45pm kick-off).

Among them is the return of prop Jordan Pinnock with Chris Sio switching to loose forward.

Vatuvei scores early after a good cutout pass from Lolohea.

Strong work from the forwards early in the game.

Missed conversion from Lino.

One of those turnovers was laughable... Momirovski with the most obvious second effort when Ata was playing the ball. Terrible call.

One of the others was just typical Vete this year..

Vete loses it again not long after a Manu turnover.

Edit. Warriors get possession back after strong contact from Afoa forces the ball loose.

LOL Wyong. Been playing for penalties in the play the ball and not getting them all game.

Knight abuses the ref and they get penalised when they have the ball.

This ref needs to officiate some Storm games. He seems like he wouldn't put up with Cam Smiths bullshit.

Wyong catch Pauga in off his wing and some good passing puts Latrell Mitchell over. Poor numbering up in defence.
