Elite half in his prime.

There will be no shortage of suitors.

His next contract should be his highest paid and it will be.

i dont agree with this assertion at all. For one thing hes lost his speed from a few years ago so is not in his prime. Elite is questionable. Hes a very good half that has had questionable cattle to work with over the years so has had that against him. Having said that, theres only a few elite halves in the NRL and he would be below them based on what ive seen over the years. Goes MIA too much for my liking.
Will be interesting to see what the market bears.

Maybe the Warriors know that Shaun wont get paid what he used to, anywhere else.

Have to agree with most on here that feel he's taking up too much money for the little that he's doing on the field.

I wouldnt mind seeing Shaun at the Roosters or some other good club.

Shaun needs to take a long hard look at himself if he thinks hes worthy of the type of money hes on. Good for him if another club is willing to cough up the big bucks but I'm glad the Warriors are finally talking some sense(except for targeting Norman and Moses smh).

Yeah, I agree. Except it wasn't Shaun who awarded himself the golden boot and the MOM from the recent test vs Australia. We know Shaun has a very inflated opinion of his value to the team but the media have a lot to answer for in this regard. Also the Warriors in the past have described him as a player to build a team around. The mirror he has been looking in is distorted.
Time for a reality check.
This time last year it seemed big props were a dime a dozen and smart halves could name their money.
The end of the season taught us that big men still pave the way to victory.
It seems the new Warriors management group are way smarter than in previous seasons. Which is great news for the club and supporters.

Shaun Johnson playing with Ponga would be something very very special.

There isn't enough cap to fit 2 Million dollars halves at a club, the numbers don't work. Ponga will also get his deal upgraded before he hits the market end of next year.. The Knights desperately need props, they won't offer more than what the Warriors are likely thinking. Parramata on the other hand, look out. But the club is hardly an attractive option. Raiders could maybe get close to mill if they are into him? Other than that, would be surprised if he got any offers over what the Warriors are thinking of paying him.

He told you he is leaving.

Has no need to explain, will or will not happen.

Manu does not make claims often, hope he is right.

If you cannot afford two, one million dollar halves, better find a new one, someone else will snap him up, you blokes do not deserve his genius reading this thread.

Has forwards,can beat Australia, dead set, take 5 Sharks and throw him to us.

Question for you Mr Angry. Did you think he was the MOM in the Australia vs Kiwi's test?

I thought he was the difference.

The forward battle was even, the backs was an awesome battle, the difference was the halves, Johnson in particular.

Johnson is a man you can build a team around, you just have not done that properly yet.

Wins with the kiwis, losses with the dead weights like Kata giving up 12 points a game (well gives up 18 tackling thin air, then scores one of Johnson).

I suggest your half is not the issue and you are barking up the wrong tree.

That said, we will happily take him, go find someone better or cheaper.

By all reports/guess he would get 1.2-1.4million a season and would be the natural progression of his current contract.
He is worth it on his best days. But not consistent enough to command it.
He can't lead a team, he can take advantage when team roll forward but can't dig you out of trouble.
I dont know his work ethic vs Cronk and JT who apparently spend hours after training.

I'd give him $600-700k with $10k bonus every win, $20k first round finals increasing by $10k every finals game.

We also have neglected the chance for a 3rd party agreement coming in to keep him at the Warriors and freeing up cap space. Which for me is the logical reason this went public.

I'm 100% for the club in their stance on this.

There's a few scenarios that happen on this.

A) Shaun says I love the Warriors, I don't want to play for anyone else, we're building something good, I want to be better, he has a good 2019, and earns a re-signing - possibly on a bit less coin but a bit less than $1m is still decent. Wouldn't be he ripe for TPAs as well?

B) He drops his lip, ala when Freddie tried to offer him well-meaning advice. Either leaves now or more likely at the end of the year. In that case, we don't miss him with an attitude like that, and we sign someone else.

C) He tries to dig in but again isn't living up to the $1m tag, and we respectfully say thanks for your years of effort but it's time we try something else.

It's not relevant whether he'll sign somewhere else and be a gun. It's only relevant what he does for us and the value he brings for the price he costs. If he's $1m a year or so, and we can get something similar out of a cheaper option then use the spare change to sign in another key area, we do that.

And people who poo-poo Brooks, he was the Tigers' POTY this year behind a middle of the road team and pack. He'd be worth it for the right price.

The Warriors and Shaun Johnson need to get their skates on, but I fear it is too late.

The club basically declared over the weekend that it is time for Johnson to move on, one of the bravest decisions in the history of New Zealand sport.

But instead of waiting another year, they need to move now. It's in Johnson's best interests as well.

Chief executive Cameron George and the club deserve an A-plus rating for deciding that Johnson's time with the Warriors is at an end.

He's the club's biggest PR winner, there's an army of devoted Johnson fans who won't be happy, and on his day he is a brilliant footballer almost beyond compare who he can tear opponents apart.

But he is also shockingly erratic and Johnson has basically been told to find another club, when his contract ends after the 2019 season. At $1m a year, he's turned into a dud investment.

But while encouraging the mercurial Johnson to test the market is sound, the timing appears terrible.

The Warriors may end up with a highly-paid, disaffected star in their midst next year, and last year's World Cup indicated that Johnson can struggle with his reactions in adversity.

The problem is finding a new playmaker, particularly as Mason Lino has been let go. It looks like Johnson will stay with the Warriors in 2019, which is one heck of a risky situation.

It's hard to know how a flaky footballer who has gone from being feted to bladed will react to this public humiliation.

The Warriors are on a hiding to nothing, because Johnson will do one or some of the following.-

1) Continue to flatter to deceive;
2) Fall apart and send the Warriors plummeting;
3) Play brilliantly for a while leading to an avalanche of intolerable public pressure, while flattering to deceive yet again;
4) Play brilliantly leading to the Warriors getting slammed;
5) Be a constant distraction.

Johnson's demise signals the Warriors, under coach Steve "Mooks" Kearney, are hell bent on ending their history of being crowd pleasing failures.

It's easy for those of us who operate from the sidelines to bang on about how the most brilliant footballer this city has produced for many years turned into a club killer.

But it's much harder making the decision, knowing that you are sending a prized asset still adored by many to another club where Johnson may end up embarrassing the Warriors.

George deserves some plaudits but I've got no doubt that the coach is really swinging the axe. Johnson must see it that way, which is a problem in itself.

The final straw for Kearney was probably Johnson's dud performance in the playoff loss to the Penrith Panthers. It was Johnson's big career moment, after a six-year finals absence.

Now Johnson will be playing for a club and coach who have, very publicly, appeared to lose faith in him.

The maddening thing about Johnson is that he is worth every cent of his $1m-a-year contract and then some at times. On other days, he's a two dollar shop trinket.

No club with title winning aspirations can tolerate a playmaker like that and commentators saw a similarly confusing Johnson performance in the Kiwis' latest loss to England in Hull.

Johnson — who has just turned 28 — would be best served finding a new club straight away, to have maximum time for a career re-launch.

His re-boot will be fascinating to watch. So will his final season at the Warriors, but not in a good way.
