https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12167098 - Warriors superstar Shaun Johnson asks club to be released from his contract

Club needs to let him go. There is no point insisting he stay for next season. They played hardball and sometimes that's just the way it goes.

Good luck to Shaun wherever he ends up.

And now the club can look forward and focus on the future without him.

I'm disappointed but at the same time it may prove to be just what the club needs. Time will tell.

Maybe that young bloke from Penrith will get an early opportunity in the halves now. And SJ asking for a release will free up a million in the cap right? Can't see it being any other way since he requested the release.

Who can we get? Why didn't we sign the Cleary's???:laughing:

One million bananas... might be a bit late to do much with them, though...

Lets cut the sh*t and talk about what the real problem here is - a massive falling out between the warriors and Peter Brown.

Once Johnson goes, he wont have a single player on the books at Mt Smart.

His MO was exactly the same with Ata. His books are a grave yard for the warriors.

Hope his first game against the Warriors is at Mt Smart. Guarantee a sellout.

An absolute mess, and could very likely derail the entire season - just after one of the clubs best ever.

Who would play halfback? Why break up a spine that bought upon the Dally M Player of the Year? what good are Blake Green and Issac Luke now?

The way Cameron George spoke about him was disgraceful. While the lad was overseas. Completely disrespectful nonsense talk while he wasn’t even in the country. I’d be absolutely disgusted too.
From the original article it sounds like he was asked a question by the media and he answered it honestly. I don't really see any disrespect from either party yet. Did George make some other comments somewhere specifically around SJ?

Warriors CEO Cameron George confirmed the club was in no rush to re-sign Johnson and keeping their options open.

"The club are open-minded about the future and we'll talk to Shaun and his management when he gets back from overseas about the future," said George.

"We're very open-minded and with any recruitment decisions it's about the team and the club first. But whilst we're being open-minded about the future, we're not going to be scared to make big calls on any player.

"We want to win the competition and we'll be doing everything recruitment-wise to get the best people in the club to do so.

"We are not scared about making any big calls on our roster because we want to win this competition and everyone's always under review."

It’s unclear where he might land if he is eventually released but Cronulla are believed to be the early front-runners among a group of at least four clubs willing to bid for his services.

Off to the bathroom, I have exploded.

I cant see an early release without a potential player swap. I am wondering if Te Maire Martin could be a good option. Bit of X factor and a Kiwi. Cowboys should still have cap space to accomodate?
