Warriors play hardball with Shaun Johnson

As a poster said earlier, the Cameron George quotes were not brutal. They honestly answered what was put in front of him - not saying Johnson was surplus to requirements, but that they were not going to immediately re-sign him and no player was above being put out to pasture. If he couldn't wear that in the nature it was intended, ala his bristling at Fittler's advice, then we should be happy to see him go. The person who constantly says the Warriors are his everything should swallow his ego, realise in 8 seasons he and we have totally underachieved, and set about righting that. But he's not. That's fine, I don't begrudge him going, but...

I'm totally fine with Johnson going tomorrow. Both club and player need to move on. Even if he were to go somewhere and dominate (and I'd only see that being with a top 2-3 club) it's irrelevant to the context of him not being value at our club.

I'd be happy to see this Penrith kid promoted if he's decent, and stock pile cash ahead of 2020 when there are truckloads of quality in the positions we need coming up for sale.

Best scenario for us is he goes to the Broncos with Nikorima as part payment.
Don't think that's a good scenario for the Broncos - swapping like for like...

Only three things make sense to me - arranging something for Brooks, letting him go to the Sharks and keeping our powder dry - trusting that we can attract a quality half (I seriously doubt that), or telling him to man up because he's a Warrior...

The worry for me is they'll have some delusion that they can turn Norman into a model citizen/player, or Moses into a team guy...

My fear is that they let him go with no replacement lined up, and then we've just thrown away any hope of success in 2019. Are there any halves of SJ's calibre on the market? How could we possibly let him go? Surely management isn't going to call 2019 a write-off and hold out for replacement in 2020. We let Lino go already for christ sake, so don't have even a backup to fill his shoes.

Telling him to man up won't work with SJ. In fact that wouldn't work with most of the modern Warriors outfit.

Norman was a bloody good player until that weed Moses arrived, double that with Hayne.

Moses was behind a lot of the rot at the Tigers (until Ivan cleaned up the joint).
Moses would be a huge mistake.

Norman could easily fit into the Warriors style but I don't think he's a good long term option. Could sign him on a one-year contact with options. And see how the Penny Panthers boy progresses. I'm thinking if Sullivan had anything to do with his recruitment then he must be halfway decent

I guess the other consideration is who would work well in combination with Blake Green. For me, he's been a great signing and hopefully the warriors are doing something to lock him up for a few more years.

Green will be 34 when off contract. Don't think he has a few more years after us.

George is fronting the media at 10:45. Major announcement. Everyone hold onto your anus.

It's not that Norman can't play that bothers me, it's his extra-curricular activities...

I suspect that given his loose Kiwi connections, and he probably has a history with the coach, he'll be the replacement?

Media still seems to be picking Cronulla as the landing spot... but they're a bit like the weather reporters imo

Makes sense for Cronulla, and Johnson, but not the Warriors imo

Basically told them yesterday that if he was made to play out the remainder of his contract that he wouldn't put in, in or off the field.

See ya Shaun, best of luck with your next contract.

Hopefully the Sharks let him continue to wear his 'Shaun Johnson' range of clothing to local events.

Well that's 2019 down the drain then. Who's pairing with Kakariki?

We made it to top 8 for one year and now way down to the bottom again.

I’m in shock

Johnson and Mannering is a fair bit of cabbage freed up and only Ah Mau to show for it

The squad and fan reactions will be very interesting in this, all the goodwill created this year could go down the gurgler extremely quickly

I'm gutted to be honest. Gutted that they couldn't come to terms and Shaun never showed his full potential at the club. You just know one of those cap cheating clubs like the Roosters will sign him and he will turn into the best player in the comp.

He had like 5 different coaches, 5 different halves pairs, and a constantly underperforming pack for most of his career here.

Gutted that next year is now a wash and we have to wait until at least 2020 for any chance at improvement.

But having said that, sounds like he's acting a bit childish, and the club probably had no choice. Keeping a million dollar player who won't put in the effort is worse than losing him.

The warriors have pissed me off here. SJ is not the best half of the competition but he is far from the worst and he has now got a lot of experience. He struggles when his forwards don't get parity but he would not be the first half to have that problem.

This is just bullshit really. The Warriors chances of a finals finish have plumetted now. Experienced halves do not grow on trees. At this point we have to start again.

SJ will tear it up at the Sharks with a good forward pack and we will say, what the hell.
