Was that the greatest Grand Final ever?

Greatest Grand Final ever?

So you're username is a troll?

Because of the mostly dreadful second half, made such by Brisbane's negative tactics, this cannot possibly be the greatest Grand Final ever. That honour goes to 1989 Canberra vs Balmain. I have seen the 1989 game many times (I own a copy) and it had everything, including extra time. Most of those proclaiming 2015 the best ever have not seen the 1989 game.

This 2015 game will be remembered for its closeness, a very good first half, and a sensational ending. Not enough to qualify for the status of "best ever Grand Final." But it will be remembered.

People actually in here thinking 2013 was a better game than this? f**k me, you will all talk so much shit to discredit anything the the broncos or Qld teams are involved in. Very close to the best I have seen.Only old enough to remember every GF since 95. 97 was the only Gf I have seen that was better than tonight.

Well Ive seen nearly seen every GF since 75. Missed 91-93 when living overseas.

I can't make up my mind whether this was better than 89 or not. Two contrasting styles of football teams, some excellent individual stuff. This one was fast.

1989 is folklore. Hard call but jees this one is close.

It's a Sydney conspiracy! Still waiting for someone to somehow link the Broncos loss to a Sydney-centric conspiracy

Before the final 40 seconds the game was boring as all hell.

Quite obviously one of the greatest finishes to a grand final in history though

I think it's up their the ending i would argue was the most epic even when in comparison to 1999 and 1997. In those games the Knights began to get on top of Manly in the last 5 minutes they nearly won it with a field goal the play before and the scores were tied. Melbourne seemed to have a lot of momentum against the Dragons.

Second half yesterday it looked like the Cowboys had blown it with the Linnett chance Brisbane were defending brilliantly and the Cowboys weren't really looking like scoring apart from the Linnett play. On the last play of the game Granville throws a poor pass to Thurston who nearly get's tackled twice and runs 10 metres backwards he passes it to Morgan who pulls off arguably the greatest play Grand Final history that last moment they didn't even look like scoring until Morgan slipped that offload they didn't have an overlap it wasn't like a certain try but they still scored and that for me is why it was the best finish ever it came from nothing.

In terms of best ever i think it might struggle to hold up quality wise but that is mainly for the second half the first half was excellent. It truly was a fantastic game and it's pretty amazing Canberra, Penrith, Newcastle, Melbourne and now North Queensland's first premierships all came down to the final minute of the game.

One highlight from the game, which occurred in the last few seconds, saved it from being one of the worst GF you could watch. That second half performance from Brisbane was embarrassing and sealed their fate. How is watching the new Alfie kick the ball into touch a great spectacle?

Before the final 40 seconds the game was boring as all hell.

I can't even fathom how anyone can form this opinion.

More than happy for people to rank 89 or others higher, but I just can't wrap my head around anyone saying it was boring.

I think even science could prove this opinion is wrong.

Not sure why 1997 gets so much love. The Sharks were never in it, wasn't a close or particularly exciting game.

Very good grand final - there have been many excellent ones imo

Best finish (80 min) - ruined by the stupidity of Golden Point - proper extra time (as per 1989) would have been much better, or even a full replay. Right team won, just no great joy for me in how it ended

What are the common denominators between 1989,1997 and 2015?

All three teams won their first premiership.

All three came from behind.

All three won in dramatic fashion with special plays.
Steven Jackson barnstorming run, Andrew Johns to Darren Albert on the hooter, Michael Morgan to Kyle Feldt on the hooter.

We are very lucky to experience all three GFs in our lifetime when other sports/comps will never experience anything like that in their entire existence ...

After the opening 15 mins neither team fired a shot in attack for the rest of the first half. The Broncos then just tried to waste time for the final 30 mins of the game and the Cowboys l, for all their possession and territory, only really looked like scoring once the entire half (linnett's dropped ball). Even in that final set they didn't remotely threaten until Morgan got the ball on the final play.

Take away the last gasp try and that would have been one of the worst halves of footy of the finals series

I've only been watching them for 55 years so can't give a definitive answer, until the Sharks/Warriors/Titans come up with something better it'll have to do

Chicka Fergusons try was a bigger moment than Steve Jacksons. Jackos was just icing on the cake.

Another good point, but funnily enough I think Jackson's try has a longer lasting memory just because of what he did to get there.

I can't remember how much time was on the clock with either try, but I do remember that English centre (Courier?) mis-kicking the ball in his own half in the lead up to Jacksons try so there must not have been much time left.
