Was Walters really better than Elias?

If modern day hookers had to play against Piggins they'd have to practice concussion testing

I love the assumption that modern day players are wusses that would be bashed out of the game if they played in the old days, that if punching and cheap shots were still allowed that they would crumble, most would give as much as they got. I think you'd find most modern players would still thrive under the old rules and some would love to throw punched/the rough stuff without having to worry about getting a 20 week suspension

Cultural bias me thinks.

I didn't mind Elias, especially when he played for NSW. Walters was better though and it was a fair margin.

Walters also has three premierships to Elias 0. Says a fair bit IMO.

No doubt you're right but Piggins spent a career intimidating his opposition, an ingrown thing that can't be grafted on a different tree

Premierships are not really a point to judge skill though

A lot of great players have no premierships to their names.

Thurston? 2004...

Shane Perry gets bragging rights for spending more time on the field to earn his, but they can still compare rings.

I'm a Raiders fan but I will admit Elias was better at state level than Walters. Elias was truly awesome for the blues in the early 90s and really brought a lot of passion to the NSW side.

Walters was probably a better club player and was technically perfect for a dummy half, although didn't have a kicking gaming.

Vic Mauro > Matt Scott? :sarcasm:

Waiting for the day Smith bites himself on the arm, then starts throwing punches to get the opposite hooker sent off

Pretty sure Elias never blamed any players for being at fault for having their neck broken either. They're both A-grade merkins.

Steve Walters to Ben Elias: Go easy on me Benny, I've got a test to play next weekend.

Sums it up tbh
