As 2007 starts, it might be best to reflect a little bit on 2006 for the Slayers. As most that have followed this team since its inception in 2003, 2005 was a very tough year for the Slayers. The question was put out whether the team would continue in 2006 as we struggled for numbers in 2005.

The Slayers management aggressively recruited for the 2006 season. We had a kickoff party that was successful in getting the name out in the Washington, DC metro area. Over the 2006 season, we had 35+ different players don the Slayers jersey. The season record of 4-6 was not what we hoped to achieve, but considering that in 2005 we were winless, this was a step in the right direction.

A lot of new players stepped up and took to League. We could not name all the new players, but special mention on the new players would go to Maoa, Tonga, Jesse Lujan, Dave Fowler, Dan G, Joey Purcell, Joe D, Craig Webb and Mike Byrd. These guys were there week in and week out.

Some players returned from a year off or more that really helped the team, JC Rocha, Bill Weeks and Matt McBay. These three made the Slayers a much better team.

The holdovers were Tom C., Dwayne, Jaron, Robert, Tony Munnings, Steve Grant, Rory, Dave Parmiter, Phil Hill, Dave Faimanifo, Frank Walsh and Nick H. There were others that were left out, but this compromised most of the team over the year.

The team played like a team that had a lot of new pieces. There were some great spots, and not so special moments. One of the more fun events of the year was when the Slayers entertained NZ Police Squad in August. The tour was full of gentlemen and great players. We hope to see our friends in 2008.

The Slayers look forward to 2007 and will be updating the site with news and thoughts as we move forward. As always, if you are interested in joining the Slayers, please sign up for our yahoo groups e-list at the bottom of the page.
