Summer was a pretty big hit for them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBxJEE4u4_s Sleepy Eyed was just an amazing album.

Buffalo Tom changed my life. Lucky to play with them about four years ago when they played a few shows in oz. bill janovitz has a newish album out now, the singer, it's great.

Sharkadelic, swear to god I'm not being an ass...are you sure it was buffalo tom on nye in Sydney? With frenzal? Don't recall that!

Where abouts? Saw them at Metro around then. Also saw them in Canberra with Superchunk, another great 90's band.

Time flies, 2008 at metro and zoo in brisbane. Smudge pulled out of Sydney so my band and I did an hour. Was a small crowd overall, just before everything was old is new again combined with not great promo. But loved it, sweet dudes and still great live. Zoo was better crowd wise, and screamfeeder played. Epic.

Superchunk/buffalo tom was like 94ish and amazing. Superchunk did Annandale a few months back, very very good still!

Always loved the church .
But
They f**ked me over live every time.
Too cool for school.
I never saw them play unguarded moment.

We do Unguarded Moment in our band.
This is the first time we played it. That's me singing and realising that the key is a little too low for my voice! ha.

Also just added Under The Milky Way.

Have you seen The Church with Symphony dvd from a few years ago.
Great show.

yeah a bit high but it still works.
The dude doing the back ups does a good job.

Have you seen the full length version of their aria hall of fame speech?
It is hilarious.

Yeah cool.
I have to say, it does sound better these days... approaching the vocals a different way.

Nah I haven't seen that. Will look it up.
They have just finished recording a new album actually

Nice one Poss. We do both those as well. We have a chick singing though and her range is a bit lower and we are tad slower than your cover (fugg im the youngest in the band by 10 years and im on old curtis). Not as tight as you guys. Love your countdown in the middle. Milkyway is in many ways our signature tune. 2 accoustic guitars, Fender Strat, bass, drums and our singer (6 piece too many guitars. We fall over ourselves with arrangements beacuse of that). Great job boss.

I'm recording a few songs with my band...mini album.
Doing it ourselves with no experience :)
It is a real hit and miss process.
I am youtubing how to record things with pro tools then having a crack at it myself.

Our songs are sort of early oils "surfing with a spoon " kind of feel.
Lots of guitars.

I recommend fwiw you try Presonus Carch. Recorded a song for the John Lennon Song Contest (played drums, rythmn, bass and lead as well as sung (badly)) all using presonus audiobox and Studio 1 software. Drag and drop, presences, presets, effects you name it. All you do is play and sing the way you want it ( mic up the amps) then process it through the software. Amazingly intuitive. Good gear.

I use an mbox with pro tools.

The drums are a bit of a mission with only two input jacks.
so I am mic-ing them up into a mixing desk getting the levels then into the mbox.
The mastering is another beast I am yet to approach.

Wow! Drift Away! I used to play with an Elvis impersonator from the US in the 80's who swore he wrote that song and it was pinched from him.

Yeah the drums are a night mare. I borrowed every god damn mic i could get my hands on. Had two overhead, one in the kick drum two on the snare (above and below) and one in between the first 2 toms. Took me an age to get the levels right but you can fiddle the wave freq in the track using Studio one to get the presence of each track. Works a charm when done by exeprts. Mine sounds pretty ropey. I borrowed a Presonus VL1818. Lots of jacks. The other way is get your skins man onto an electric kit which outputs midis that you can process. Only need a single midi line in then. I also found the samples in the software were great. I havnet always got access to the kit so when i havent i grab a strike of each drum component (snare hit, tom, cymble bass kick..one of everything ) and painstakingly copy it in place in the track. You only need to build a few bars and copy and paste. Sounds and works well but its competely obvious to anyone with any ear at all that its not live drumming. Too perfect. Works for song contests where the performance, whilst cant be ignored, isnt the critical element. The song is.

Yeah pro tools has some great drum loops I use.
I basically record all the guitars and vocals to a drum loop then drop it out for the drummer to do his bit.

No harm done, bro. It was in Brisbane. Davies Park or somewhere I believe it was. Probably about 97 or 98. I think Dogs played the Mules in the Grandfinal that year. You got to play with them? That's way cool.

I think Buffalo Tom was one of those gateway bands that got me into jangly depressing awesome stuff.

Did a cool version of Under the Milk way with an impromptu band for a mates party, the solo was done on an electric harp. Brilliant. One of my favourite songs ever
