The fire is obviously burning in Jarryd Hayne.

While his demeanor towards the refs still needs improving he has made giant strides elsewhere as a leader in 2014. Technically (as in the the technical aspects of Rugby League) he was superb in the first half last night but I found his efforts in the second half to be more impressive in both his defence and his willingness to shoulder the burden of kicking for the inexperienced halves.

There were plenty of courageous efforts in Origin 1 for the Blues but he and Gallen stamped themselves as the two clear leaders of that team.

We probably haven't quite completely quashed the loser culture that has permeated through our club over the last ~5 years but between the likes of Peats (ultimate competitor), Hopoate (ultimate professional) and Ma'u (ultimate badarse), along with the growth of Mannah and Hayne we actually have a core group of players for our young kids and journeymen to look towards and lift for on game day.

Despite the media reports pointing to Justin Hunt making his club debut tomorrow, I expect Hayne to back up - be it starting at fullback or coming in from the bench.

On a sidenote I know the bye is good for our boys but gee it is a long time to get through, even if Origin alleviates the wait somewhat.

Bring on the footy.

Where are the media reports of Hunt getting his debut? I've heard Hayne may not play and then that he will. No word of any replacements.

If Hunt is fit, it makes the most sense.
Bought as a replacement/fill in for the back 3. Injured for the start of the season where TT and Sio got the jump on him, but been at No. 1 for Wenty for the last month (maybe more) and playing solid football there.

Minimises further disruption to the backline given Tonga is out anyway.

If true, welcome to the Eels NRL team Justin. Show us what you've got and give it your all. That's all we can ask.

Going to be a tough game. Hopefully we now have hoppa, semi, Norman and an in form Sandow we should be able to score a few points as opposed to what used to happen when hayne was out.

How's he been at Wenty?

As someone said somewhere his attack is good its his defence that may be worried about. His physical presence is nothing compared to Hayne. But he has a good combination with Sandow from the early went games knows peats' game well from his souths/bears days. So will be interesting. Better back up than Mullaney thats for sure

Excellent in attack. Always popping up in support and regularly converting half breaks into tries with his pace. I'm looking forward to him running off the shoulder of Manu Ma'u, Pauli² and Junior Paulo - all of whom can send him into the backfield.

While he is no where near as bad as Jake Mullaney, I do have some concerns about his defence at the last line. He isn't afraid of making contact with an open field runner but he has a tendency of literally throwing himself at them rather than completing an effective tackle.

Corey Norman and Chris Sandow will have to do the heavy lifting in the play-making though as while Hunt can throw a decent pass to finish off a movement his strength lies in his running and supporting.
