Yes well wasn't it Brad who thought signing Simmonson for 3 years was a great idea
Thats how dumb our head coach is
It was only a bad signing if we paid too much. Considering we had Sivo and Dunster on the books already I doubt Simonsson was guaranteed a starting wing spot. Sivo is top 17 and Dunster/Simonsson are fringe first graders.

Loss has nothing to do with JA. But at same time the kid is basicaly garbage.Shame on you BA . I'd say he is Ron Massey cup level and thats where he should be next season. I've seen enough of him in NSW CUP behind a powerfull forward pack.He may turn out ok. Finals isn't the time to give a kid with very little talent or athletic ability game time.

Waqa as I said is to suspect under high ball to be a winger. He is a centre. Wingers have to be good under high ball. He isn't.

Penrith just waited for us to fatigue then crushed us. It had nothing to do with having a Ron Massey cup halfback on the bench. By time Moses went off our tanks where empty.
They took Lane and Brown out of game. Bashed RCG and JNR.
Game over.

People want to bag me on here for calling it what it is. I can't help it if I have a great understanding of the game. I'm not a pessimist. I think we have enough talent to win. But not the shit we play every finals series.

5 STEP SHUFFLE
No team should be expected to beat the Panthers in the finals, especially in Penrith. They are better than everyone. If they have an off day they might get beaten but that's out of the opposition's hands. It's no failure to lose to them. The only failure is if Penrith lose.

I think the point is that we are losing 6 NRL level players (realistically Top 20 in our squad) and we've only replaced two of those with NRL level players.
Sure but how many of the ones leaving were signed as NRL level players? If we can develop those we can develop others.

Our average levels on the ladder in the lower grades, and very few long term injuries, suggest that we might struggle to do that for next season. We need to fill some gaps.

I look for a halfback that has vision. He has it. He should not be in first grade as he has weaknesses and Cleary showed his easily yesterday.
We all know he is slow and lateral movement is horrible BA should also know that. Cleary knew it and as soon as he came onto the field attacked him.
He ran into the big hole left when Arthur came in to close the gap between him and Paulo. Arthur was in no way targeted. He only had to make four tackles in 20 minutes.

I would expect
- Russell is being groomed as the Opacic replacement for next year ... and there is Dunster
- Hopgood will be a middle ... but yes he is not a big middle
- Matto might potentially move back to an edge .... I don't know if thats a good thing, he has gone ok in the middle
- agree we need to find a big middle (or 2) .... I think its clear we tried Tapau and Klemmer
Matterson is a better defender than Papali'i on the edge. You take the good with the bad - we will miss Papali'i's attack, but those are runs we can give to someone else. I would expect our edge defence to improve, since it got worse when Papali'i replaced Matterson on our right edge.

Matterson will run both in between defenders as well as straight into them. That's double the options Papali'i provides.

What's wrong with letting it bounce ffs. The chasers are generally offside anyway. They're not allowed to touch the ball, and if they're onside and they catch it it's last tackle.
I think this is the tactic we're going to have to go with. Doubt the coaching staff will make the suggestion though.

Agreed. That’s absolutely what he should have done after the second drop.
A message should have gone out telling every merkin to get back on their kicks to collect the loose ball. It was poor coaching.

Someone said he’s played more games of first grade at 19 than Jarryd Hayne. If true that’s said and laughable.
You know it's not true. By the same age Hayne had played 41 games and won Dally M Rookie, Dally M Winger and won the Brad Fittler Medal for best NSW player in Origin ffs.

But Jake Arthur has won more games as a starter (4 from 11) than Thurston had (2 from 5) by the same age. This obviously doesn't prove Arthur will be a better player, but does prove that talented youngsters need NRL time to develop, even if their team is likely going to lose when they play. That's the problem with backup halves. The fact they have to play means that an important starter is unavailable. I bet merkins whinged that Thurston should be nowhere near first grade either. The Bulldogs won 75% of their games in '02-'03 but only 40% when Thurston started. Were the losses his fault or just expected when whichever half he replaced was unavailable?
