Does anyone remember what situation benefit of the doubt was brought in for? Initially it was brought in to cover just a couple of scenarios. Now it's being used in every trying scoring situation which was not the point of the rule when it was first brought in.

I don't think it was brought in for a particular situation. It is an unfortunate consequence of using a video review system. It doesn't so much bother me that they buggered that last one up......but I wish they would leave the whole video thing to events that happen over the goal line......all the other shit changes the way the on-field refs make decisions....then they leave the video ref with a question which is effectively 'is there incontravertable evidence that my call on the field is wrong'.
