Week one Finals schedule

What you're proposing makes no sense.

Broncos can pull 50k at Lang Park. Cowboys 25k at North Queensland Stadium. Melbourne 20k at Melbourne Rectangular Arena. Newcastle 25k at Marathon. Raiders 20k at Bruce. They're not going to get that at Stadium Australia because it's not within driving distance for their fans. Plus they have the burden of having to travel much further than the Sydney clubs during the regular season. It would be criminal to rig everything so the Sydney teams don't need to board a plane during the finals after the easy run they get during the season.

The problem that no one is willing to address is the Sharks have historically struggled to draw much more than 15k to 18k to the SFS and Endeavour during week one of the finals because they don't have enough active fans. There's just 220k people in Sutherland and that's all the Sharks can hope to represent because they refuse to broaden their brand to encompass more than their LGA. Attracting active support from 10% of their LGA would equate to 22k fans, which is fanciful given no other club has that sort of following within their catchment. Good luck getting 10% or more of Sutherland to get on board when the club emphasises just one small suburb in their club song. "Up up Cronulla" isn't a ringing endorsement for the rest of Sutherland.

Does any other sports club identify themselves as their suburb first and LGA second?

It would be dumb if the Broncos were the Red Hill-Brisbane Broncos. Or if the Titans were the Robina-Gold Coast Titans. The only team I can think of that did something similar was Burleigh when they called themselves Gold Coast-Burleigh Bears during their debut season in the Queensland Cup in 1997, but they had enough sense to at least put their city ahead of their suburb.

Last but not least, Endeavour shouldn't hold finals games because it is a poorly constructed ground with subpar amenities. It's not fit for regular season NRL games and is a black eye on the game.
Don’t people more out from the Shire (or anywhere in Sydney) when they leave home? If so, why don’t clubs have fans across Sydney? Or do people change clubs if they move from Cronulla to Bondi or Parramatta?

Here in Melbourne it is not only only our better road/transport infrastructure that allows centralised stadiums to work for AFL, it is the fact the each club’s supporters are fairly even distributed across the city. Why is this not the case in Sydney?

Wahh...

Watch the ratings, crowds mean nothing.

You do where the millions that pays the players comes from here is a tip, not crowds.
Unfortunately this is largely right. The nrl do not care about crowds or convenient time slots throughout the year to entice good crowds.

Sold out to the TV rights whorehouse long ago.

However I still agree with the masses. Pointsbet isn’t fit for a week 1 final.

I will however be in attendance and happy about it.

So says somebody who has local access to a major stadium.
Sydney has more clubs than it will ever be able to support, hence the reason most of its clubs are not located next to a major stadium.

I live in northern Logan and need to travel at least 40 to 60 minutes to get into Lang Park. If I lived in southern Logan it would take almost two hours.

Got the email from my club about ticketed members purchasing window from 10am tomorrow. Did anyone else receive one from theirs?

If so, is it really a single generic password for all members as per the email, and not the dedicated per-member code/AAN that you normally need?

That's a good way for the NRL to even up the disparity in membership numbers....

But don't play it at the opposition's home ground!

I get people want him ground advantage. The problem is not all clubs have an adequate home ground. There should be requirements that each club has to meet to have a licence when there's so many important unrepresented markets eager to have their own team and so few licences available, but that's an argument for another thread.

Suburban grounds are fine for home and away, but potentially locking out 40,000 fans from the Penrith v Parra game is peak NRL. Given the tickets go on sale to both sets of members at the same time I'll be keen to see the division of the crowd. Obviously more Penrith fans, but there will be quite a few that will miss out methinks. Maybe they will side with those that want it to be at Homebush after they miss out on tickets.

Cronulla is just a dilapidated shithole and a brand new stadium is 27km up the road. If the Redcliffe Dolphins have a week 1 finals game next year I would expect that it is moved to Suncorp.

We need to do away with grounds that have amenities from the 1950s and 1980s era. Dolphin Oval would be passable if its capacity was at least 20k and undercover. Dolphins should play all of their games at Lang Park.

Yes the NRL owns the finals series.

The leagues club is a great time, and MDS is a good little joint, provided it isn't raining. I didn't argue that some might enjoy the experience more of a suburban ground - go for your life during the regular season. My point is that the NRL should be earning as much money as possible from the finals series.

Aren't PVL and co trying to bring in international interest? Imagine switching the tele on and seeing Bluebet or Pointsbet for the two biggest games of the weekend (ladder wise) - what is next, Raelene Castle to represent Australia at Miss World 2022?

V'landys has done a lot of good things, but his preference for suburban grounds is tainting his legacy.

Sharks member email says you use your member AAN code and how to get it.

Well talk to Fred's dog, was told 20k + corporate boxes by 2022...still no there.

But TV money pays the wages of all players.

If your drawing 25-30k fans and selling corporate boxes in a decent stadium you’re earning more money from it than from the tv grant. tv only pays more if you’ve got no fans And sponsors.

Also everyone here missing what PVL is doing.

He’s putting a spotlight on the small suburban grounds so he can turn to the NSW government and say ‘give us the f**king ground money you promised so these local grounds can be brought up to standard’.

Earning more good on them, the NRL pays all NRL players via TV money, crowds are great for tv, shark park will be packed with Construction on......great scenes.

Still no juniors, rich guys make money buying young kiwis and Qlders..

The kids down there think VFL is cool.

Just a truth after how long? Victorians do not like it.

Sydney people also have better things to, Melbourne is all about 80 K people hanging out, every now and then, but TV is money, could stop paying now, just watch with CH9 inferior product on mute, might do that.....hmmm

Sydney is not religious about football.

We like it but often have other things to.

Shyte I live in Brisbane on game every two weeks.

Victorians love a crap sport yet show up in droves.

Also after how many years how many juniors?

It is sad, I wish more tried our game, but they are pussies and Shyte at cricket too.
