Week one Finals schedule

Why is there speculation about what day the finals are going to be played , the NRL system has been in place for yonks

the lower ranking matches always last , the higher ones always first giving the losing top 4 games the longer turn around & the winners of the bottom 4 games the shorter turn around

Friday 1 V 4
Sat early 2 V 3
Sat late 6 V 7
Sun 5 V 8

has been this way for a long long time

Swap 5v8 and 6v7

5v8 will have to play loser of 1v4 the following Friday, can't have them with only 5 day break.

That would then necessitate 5v8 to be early game on Saturday IMO as storm host and Collingwood play across the road at night.

but thats the idea
if the 8th placed team wins & the 1st placed team lose , 8th have to be the most disadvantaged for finishing 8th by having a 5 day turn around while 1st get 7 days
thats why 5 V 8 is always the last final ..

Melb will be free of aflol on Sunday too so will help the attendance which will be a bonus

Well thats a dumb idea and 5v8 isn't always the last one. 2013 it was Saturday and one year (2016 I think) it was actually Friday. Pretty sure 2018 it was also Saturday, I'm sure there are other examples.

In fact, looking through it, 2017 and 2019 are the only 2 times 5v8 was Sunday, all other Sunday finals since 2012 when this system started have been 6v7 so no idea where you have got this notion from.

The NRL look at things like when the teams played in the last week, and what consequences will be for the winners in the bottom 4 and the losers in the top 4 as to when they will play in week 2. They will, for example, try to avoid having team with as little as a 5 day turn around between games in week 1 and week 2. Hencde to say it is "fixed in stone" before the season even starts, I believe, is erroneous.

Just looked at the last 3 years, and none of them followed this pattern.

Friday is either 1v4 or 2v3 and the other is Sat late.
5v8 is the game directly after 1v4 and 6v7 is after 2v3

That is it. There is some flexibilty for that reason

I would start by having Roosters v Rabbits Friday night, and Sharks v Cowboys on Sunday. That will give both 7 day turn around.

The dreaded Pointsbet home final has become a reality. That and the Penrith-Parra game being at BlueBet means that crowds will be pretty poor in week 1 of finals.
