One of the things that people hated about the Crushers at the end was there recruiting of NSW Origin players.

I think this would be a mistep, he isn't a kid anymore and he doesn't really have a big profile in QLD.
Maybe but he’s taking less than Canberra offered

I bet a lot of the guys who said no to the dolphins now regret it esp ponga and maybe even Munster

Difference is that both of those guys were QLD Origin players, younger and higher profile.

When the Dolphins inevitably drop out of the 8, Fox will run stories about how they have failed and the NRL Expansion plans are in disarray etc.

Of course this is all bullshit, and they are a success already.

They would be mad to pay anywhere near a million for Jackie boi.

He's an enigma our Jack.
He's not a playmaker. Centre is probably his best position. If he was 15 kg heavier and 10cm taller he would have been an awesome backrower.

What you get with him though is 100% flat out - provided you guide him, he looks lost in origin not because of lack of effort but lack of direction.

Adam Reynolds is brisbane half back

dolphins are only going to get stronger from here they are under the cap this year around 1 million

they should make the eight or come close

The Dolphins aren't established in the QLD market yet though, they aren't winning premierships or even competing for them for a while yet.

They should recruit to sell tickets and build fanbase.

Simple Jack isn't a marquee player that will do that.

Time to be worried about the dolphins is passed

they will be brisbane two

marketing is one of the best in the nrl

forget about kayo oval play more games at Suncorp

which marquee player is available anyway

with the signings for next year and the experience of this year they will be fine

katoa and the hammer are superstars in the making

plus their forwards are stars

I think Bennett feels as tho they are a shot at the finals still and just need some decent players to overcome their injury run at the moment, otherwise their season could spiral down if they try to make-do.

Yeah Bennett said they aren't just going to pay the big bucks for just anyone, he'd rather keep some cap space up his sleeve for the right guy. All this is just to get the dolphins through their first 5 or so years though. Right now they have 3/4 of the QLD u15's side signed up and their own historically successful pathways to fall back on so they'll be producing their own guns before too long and they'll be off

They can only be $600k under the cap, every team has to spend 95% of cap and this years cap is $12mill.

Can they do that? Pretty sure thats against cap rules, otherwise clubs would stack salaries for one year to win a comp.
There was an article a while back saying they did that

pretty sure it was rothfield so make of that what you will

My understand is clubs have to spend 95% of cap each year and you can only have reasonable salary changes each year, otherwise as said you could stack salaries one year so the following year you had millions to spend and create an unbeatable team for a season.
so you can’t pay a player $1million one year then $500k the next year.

Backdating is still allowed i think if the nrl says ok

dolphins literally would’ve been forced to sign players they didn’t want just to comply it’s stupid

Still doesnt make sense, you cant carry forward unspent cap to the next year, or pay up front players for next season. They could have just dished out more bonus cash to players this season so they get up to required 95% I suppose but nrl wouldn’t let them discount it significantly under next year I wouldn’t think. Or else we would get teams stacking years with moved salaries.
so say bromwich is on $800k a year 2 year contract. They can’t pay him $1.2million this year and $400k next year.

Hes saying they can

plus any money they don’t spend on this years cap gets carried forward to future years

so that 2 million they don’t spend now means they have 666k extra over the next 3 years

Be interesting to know, there’s nothing in nrls website cap details that says either way about carry forward of unspent cap funds. Having to spend 95% of cap would suggest they can’t as they have to spend $12.3mill of the $13mill cap each year. If they can carry forward the $700k it doesn’t say.

“Gould explained how that sum could then be used to pay off other players in advance, which would result in greater room to manoeuvre in the salary cap the following year.”
