Not going to name names you know who you are

people who said the dolphins would fail
Again no one said theyd fail, sht I could run a second team in SEQ and make it work! But a number of us didnt, and still dont ,believe they were the best choice for Bribane2 and a club that covered the southern and SW corridor playing FT out of suncorp was a better option.

You’ve said their crowds could fall like the titans did after a few years so this early success is to be ignored

others have said worse

and they could. I dont think they will significantly but when Titans where avg'ing 17-21k for their first 4 years I didnt think they would either.
Interesting note, no club other than Broncos was able to sustain their early years crowd avg and all had drops and then rebuilds. Even Broncos yo yo'd quite a bit in first 15 years. So yes expect some drop off in years 3-5, unless of course they sit atop the table by then which might buffer them from it. Playing games in 10k stadiums isnt going to help them though long term.

Titans fell because the coe failed and they went broke and the afl brought in a side at the time time and spent tens of millions more than them

even still the titans are holding their own

Brisbane is still under serviced for nrl games even with the phins

It is whilst they insist on playing 40% of games not in Brisbane.

re Titans yes and no, the sht hit the fan publicly in 2012, Their crowds had already dropped from 21k to 15k in 2011. They havent got back up to a reasonable level till this year, which is great to see by the way.

A lot more to do in Gold Coast than Moreton Bay or Brisbane, so crowds for football games are more in flux there.

Also, Redcliffe Dolphins are an old and successful club, football, recruitment and business wise. So Dolphins will likely be a finals type of team more often than not compared to the Titans. Which will help keep their attendances high, Broncos-like, for the Brisbane/North region.

The lockdowns have helped too, people more inclined now to go out and attend sport, enjoy the great outdoors, not take certain things for granted. Even with everyone taking a major hit due to the economic problems. When the cost of living vastly improves might see more of a hike in average attendances nationwide.

If there's another lockdown for a few months, when people come out of it, even moreso than now will people embrace socializing and being outdoors.

Call me a negative nancy, but I've never really seen the point of the GC team. Sure the AFL installed a team there as well, but I (likewise) have always said the Suns would be a cash drain for the AFL. Problem with the GC is it's full of expats, people with pre-existing loyalties and the Titans have done very little in their 17 year history to inspire the imagination of the neutral fan. Even amongst Qld league fans there's a general apathy about them.

The irony is the NRL back in 2004 delayed expansion announcement by a year to favour the Titans bid over the CC Bears bid, yet if Norths had relocated to the GC and become the Gold Coast Bears I'd argue they'd have more supporters and more relevance in the league today.

Not sure exactly what the Titans need to change in order to develop more of an identity and more relevance?

First four years they avg'd 20k crowds. This year they got back up to 19.5k avg (7th best in the comp). People go on about Titans but they are a long way from being the weakest club in the NRL.
