They ought to play all their home games at Suncorp, Brisbane central. Their training facilities/headquarters can be Redcliffe, and they can even officially call themselves Redcliffe or Moreton Bay Dolphins but still should be playing their games in Brisbane central, representing a second Brisbane team, collecting fans along the way who didn't support Redcliffe in the QLD comp.
If they keep getting 30k crowds kayo park and Sunshine Coast will be lucky to get one game each a year

it looks like they are going to be brisbane 2

The whole idea of the 2nd team in Brisbane was to have a game at Suncorp every week.

I know today was their highly anticipated season opener and they got around that 30k figure, maybe if they aren't going so well they don't get even half of that figure? Who knows really.

I actually expected it to be near sold out.
Neither of the Broncos or the Crushers came close to selling out their first game. The Broncos derby match in a few weeks though will be a sell-out.

Remember this was back in 95 when the population of Brisbane was over a million less people

Broncos crowd average 42k
Crushers 13k

pre dolphins broncos crowd average is 32k

Wow! What a win today and what an occasion for a great club. My expectations haven't changed, I think putting up a solid showing in their first season and finishing just outside the 8 is realistic.

As far as playing next week at Dolphin Stadium, they are paying tribute to their diehards that have been with them for a long time, it's a homecoming and a celebration. They'll play a few more there this season of course with Suncorp being unavailable for the Soccer, but in the years to come commercial realities will dictate that the overwhelming majority of their games will have to be played at a first class stadium with good corporate facilities. So that will either be Suncorp or a 25 - 30k stadium on the site of their current ground (which at this point in time is not in the works so will be a decade or two away if ever).

In regards to those articles posted recently about the QLD cup stipulations on name, NRL multi-affiliates, and Dolphins turning down Moreton Bay council proposing the use of the MB name.....

It makes sense now why they went with "the Dolphins" if it's just a temporary non-name in lieu of the QLD Cup collapsing, and/or, the formalization of an NRL Reserves league, and then they can rename themselves Redcliffe Dolphins.

If they went with MB Dolphins the name would stick and they couldn't switch back.

Remember, this club is extremely proud, and have always dreamed of moving into higher competitive leagues. They fought for the rights to the Dolphins name when GC proposed that name, and you'd imagine they'd be just as proud and adamant about the name "Redcliffe" too.

So "the" is a mere placeholder till the QLD cup dissolves and a true NRL reserves or feeder league is established so they can officially resume using the name.

I still think they should have named the NRL side Redcliffe and renamed the QRL team.

For mine the name should be adopted by the team playing in the highest competition.

I know LU assumes people outside of Redcliffe will not support them, but that's a fundamental misunderstanding of the history of this club and the supporter base they have and will be able to have

Next question after today is.....can they actually make the finals from here? Can they string together wins now like it's business as usual?

Injuries or lack thereof will probably be a big factor in that. Also, how well can they travel and play in hostile environments. The win today, there was a clear emotional surge due to the home crowd, that pushed them beyond the pain/fatigue barrier, so how will they cope when the crowd is against them and they're behind in a game.

Their age means they will hit the wall and fall away at the end of the season but 10th or so is a good outcome

I think within 5 years 'the' is replaced. With what will come from where the money is

You so many other sports in that area all fighting for the corporate dollar, Makes sense to keep the clubs options open.

Suncorp is super expensive to hire so you need to make sure you have the corporates prepared to show up before you do that

If the NRL Reserves comp happens, the QRL Redcliffe Dolphins would be promoted up out of the QLD cup to the NRL Reserves comp, so then the NRL club can resume using the Redcliffe Dolphins name.

They're very proud of their tradition, so I'd expect Redcliffe would be the name again.

As I've/we've said before....a generic name is shit, and a unique (even suburban) name can easily become famous, and fans from all over the city/state/world.

Redcliffe is a great name.

We do need to play some regular season games on the Sunshine Coast
The problem is they will only play there if the SC council pays them to. Year 1 and the council already baulked at stumping up for 2 games and only agreed on 1. If Dolphins generally want to have a permenant presence on SC then they need to stop treating it like a cash cow and start treating it like a second home base.

Is being called Manly or Cronulla a help or a hindrance to those clubs attracting a bigger fanbase beyond their relatively small named area? In WA it hasnt hindered Fremantle but not sure which way it would go for Northern Brisbane folk?
