A Perth-based English NRL side would be interesting during the indigenous roundThe Perth Lions?
The Reds, who were coached by Peter Mulholland, lured the likes of Brad Mackay, Mark Geyer, Matthew Rodwell and Mick Potter west to Perth and prepared for their introduction by signing more than 60 players to play in the local competition.
Among them were promising youngsters Matt Geyer and Wayne Evans, who played in the Reds Under 21s team coached by John Dorahy.
The Perth-based team won 11 of their 22 matches in 1995 – including eight at the WACA, where they averaged crowds of 13,390 – to finish 11th, one place behind the Warriors, who won 13 games in their first season.
Re-establishing a club in Perth would be an attraction for more English players to join the NRL, with 17-hour non-stop flights between Perth and London having begun last year.
The England squad was based in Perth during the 2017 World Cup and the players joked with coach Wayne Bennett about establishing an NRL team to play in the NRL.
"We should get an English team in the NRL to play out of Perth," South Sydney prop Thomas Burgess told NRL.com during a recent interview.
"All the English boys would be keen, they loved it in Perth during the World Cup. We always used to joke with Wayne, saying 'Wayne, if we get a team in Perth you coach it and we'll play in the NRL'."

Any side. Just put one there nrl.I wouldn't think an English team based in Perth would be the greatest idea, but a Perth team with connections to England via pathways and/or feeder sides could work?
Getting the top 5 or 6 British players in the squad wouldn’t hurt!

A team of sports administrators and a State Government minister are leading the charge for a third footy club in Perth — only this franchise will be competing in the National Rugby League.
And it might already exist.
Sport Minister Mick Murray told The Weekend West this week that a working group had been established to pitch WA’s case as the NRL eyes a possible expansion to the west ahead of the signing of a new broadcast agreement in 2023.
Mr Murray said the group had met Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter Beattie, whom he described as “very bullish” about expanding the footprint of the code.
He said that his preference was to lure an existing NRL club to WA. “My preferred position is we start off in a situation similar to Tasmania in the AFL where you have one (existing team) that plays one, two or three games a year to build the interest firstly, instead of just being dropped in,” Mr Murray said.
“From what I’ve heard, most have shied away when unofficially approached. It is difficult to shift a club because of its history.
Asked about Perth’s prospects of attracting a franchise, Mr Beattie said the city had a lot going for it, highlighted by the strength of ticket sales to Origin II and the level of support from the McGowan Government.
“You have a pushy State Government that wants the future of Australian civilisation based in Perth — and that obviously includes the NRL,” he said.
Mr Beattie said he was not aware of any existing club looking to head west but NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg had been tasked with reporting on the future footprint of the game, which included assessing the financial security of existing franchises and whether they might benefit from a change of market.
Formed in November, the working group is chaired by Venues West board member Linda Wayman and includes Housing Minister and self-confessed rugby league tragic Peter Tinley, Venues West chief executive David Etherton and NRL WA general manager John Sackson.
In the shorter term, the group is focused on bringing more NRL fixtures to Perth, with Mr Tinley saying he was “enthusiastic” about recent discussions with two clubs considering moving games to WA over the next three years.
It is understood the NRL is considering adding two new teams to the competition from 2023.

This is the most positive Perth news in years I reckon. A Perth team is an absolute no brainerFMD - it's as if Beattie isn't even aware that the WA Pirates are playing in the NSWRL lower grades.
Great to hear that the WA Govt is getting involved in a push for a team though, that has got to bode well for them.

With Game 2 of SOO already selling out and Game 1 in QLD still with an abundance of tickets and as of yesterday being deemed to have one of the lowest opening game attendances in recent times, can we just give a WA team the green light already!
