haha, how good was the 'Reds, Reds, Reds' chant in the second half????!!!!?????

Honestly its one of the most enthusiastic crowds i've seen in a regular season game.

It's sort of a double edged sword watching this game. On the one hand its exciting that the reds could be back soon. On the other hand i can't help but think where the game could have been in Perth today if they were still in the comp.

I don't think it will ever flourish as much as it could have but i still think it has a great future in Perth.

god it was awesome watching that match

the crowd went crazy when they won!!!

25k crowd!

AWESOME ATMOSPHERE AT A CRAP GROUND FOR RL!

IMAGINE HOW GOOD IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AT NIB STADIUM

Was luck enough to be a reds ball boy during their superleague yr. I'll never forget the raw around NIB (old config) the moment O'neill scored a solo try from half way against the dogs!!!

TBH they are a very enthusiastic mob here still! The 1500 we used to get at JB cup games sounded like 5000 and the 300+ that are turning up for the SG Ball games are equally loud! In fact I think some fans need to be reminded that we are watching kids as they can give it to them at times!!

Like the Storm fans, what we may lack in numbers we certainly make up for in passion and noise!

That was a great match!

Geyer was great, Fritz was a good player, and how about Peter Shiels? Forgot about him! The Reds centres were a bit flimsy though and James Grant on the wing was a tad soft. Awesome pack though and Matt Fuller at 9 was a strong player.

The Reds! Reds! Red! chant gave me goose bumps, and the atmosphere was incredible. Give them a decent stadium and a team of their own and man, Perth could be a superclub like Brisbane.

The Reds will be back in the NRL when they expand the comp. Mark my words. The value they add to a TV deal is so lucrative.

I have been reluctant to become a member simply because I'm not from the area nor do I plan to be a fan.

The reds are my 1st preference above any other bid, but I don't think a non-fan should be involved in club detail like that.

:lol::lol:

That guy who was with the Dell has no idea. No to WA? Rugby League can't become national like the AFL is?

People like this need to wake up and realise that Rugby League is spread all over the world and a national competition (aka teams in other areas outside of QLD) can happen.

Him saying no to WA and Rugby League can not become national, i interupt that to mean that he understands his bid can not beat the Central Coast Bears bid and is trying to persuade the NRL to go with two heartland bids because 'we aren't as strong as the AFL' and 'we cant go national' which is the biggest load of sh*t i have ever heard.

What's funny is the people who have been to Perth recently, Dell, Bennett, Richardson, Kimmorley, Gallop etc all come away saying Perth has to be in. Its only ignorant people that have never ventured West of Penrith that come up with baseless reasons for Perth not getting an NRL team.

The 1995 game shown this week opened up alot of peoples eyes to what Perth could offer I think and was perfectly timed. Thanks Foxsports!

WA will be back in I didn't see the Dell video but to the guy who said no needs to look outside NSW and realize that league needs to go elsewhere to grow as a sport. WA will be the place, it shown potential that was unfortunately cut due to Super-league and heavy financial burdens (paying for flights to Perth) which they shouldn't of carried in the first place.

Useless fact: In 1997 North QLD vs Reds was one of the lowest scoring games of the season with the Reds winning 6-4, Cowboys missed 2 penalty goals that would of won. No shock there.

WA Reds Jnr's beat Western Sydney Academy 28-22
WA Reds Hold Out Against Western Sydney
The Cash Converters WA Reds held out with another gutsy home win against Western Sydney taking out the game 28 to 22.
Although there was bit of a stumble towards the end they were the best side all day and did the work needed to beat the academy side made up of some of the best age players from the western suburbs.
The Reds got out to a 10 nil lead early on with Dylan Rintoul scoring twice from some good play from Clinton Strickland and Jaline Graham.
With a 16 all half time score line Western Sydney were able to stay in touch with some soft defense from the Reds, but it was the try from Ethan Reynolds at 33 minutes which was the highlight for the Reds after a 50 metre movement which again saw Graham in the action.
The second half started the same as the first for the Reds with the score jumping out to 28 – 16 after 10 minutes with tries from Kieran Culgan and a good push from dummy half to Kaine Buckwell.
At 22 minutes, Western Sydney got another barge over try to get to 22 points, but it was the last score for the game as the Reds were able to hold out despite making some basic errors.
Coach Andrew Korn was pleased with the win.
“It was a gutsy win for us, and a hard fought result. The boys did not stick to the game plan at the end but we achieved some things we set out to do.”
“We started fast and made sure that Western Sydney had to chase.”
Best players were Daniel Westerduin, Keiran Culgan and Ethan Reynolds.
The only sour note was the hand injury to Ian Woods who did not get back onto the field after half time.

I remember a few years ago there were calls that a 3rd Perth team could work.

It'd be disgusting with 3 AFL teams there and 0 NRL teams.

Perth is not like Melbourne.

There is an actual base for RL over there.

The Reds are a must.

I heard Gallop interviewed on the ABC yesterday and I got the feeling that 2015 looks more of an option for expansion now. It sounds like the clubs will have a big say in this IC which is a worry.

There is no IC, so you can't possibly make a judgement like that yet. Only once the IC is in place will we be able to see how much it exerts its independence and pushes back against club demands.

Finance not an issue in WA league bid

Western Australia's bid team claim they'd be among the highest sponsorship-earning NRL clubs within two years if admitted to the competition.

They are acting on advice to have their bid ready to go in the next few weeks and indications are finance should not be an issue given interest shown in the AFL-dominated state.

"I've been told: 'Don't be surprised if you get a phone call from possibly even (NRL chief) David Gallop this month giving you six weeks to have something on the table'," said West Australian Rugby League Bid project manager Ralph McManis.

"That's so the independent commission can take them into review at their very first meeting in the first week of May."

WARL chief executive John Sackson said about $4 million worth of company sponsorship commitments were already on the table and one of them was prepared to commit $1.5 million to be the team's major sponsor.

Following the lead of Star City casino's recent major sponsorship of South Sydney and the partnership between Crown Casino and the Melbourne Storm, Perth's Burswood Casino was among those eager to be involved with a WA team.

Despite having only been able to sell "hopes and dreams" at this stage, McManis said the interest shown by the business community made them believe the club would be very profitable.

"We've had a bit of a roadshow around some of the corporates of Perth, particularly the top end of town," he said.

"If we're awarded a licence, we anticipate we could go close to being the highest sponsor-earning NRL club in our first two years."

McManis put this down to the WA business community largely consisting of mining and resource companies who are reaping the profits of a mining boom and have gone untapped by eastern NRL clubs.

One man who has been touted as a potential financial backer is Fortescue Metals Group boss Andrew Forrest whose interest in rugby league was evident in his attempt to have the NRL All-Stars game played in Perth.

However, a spokesman for Forrest said the mining magnate had not yet had any discussions with the WARL bid team or made any financial commitment.

Owners News Limited will exit the game at the end of April, with the independent commission expected to take control on May 1.

On top of the commission's agenda will be the issue of negotiating a new television deal and the prospect of expanding the 16-team competition, which, according to McManis, go hand in hand.

The marketing and ad-man said it would not make sense for the NRL to negotiate a TV deal without being able to tell potential bidders where the competition would expand in the future.

"They're not going to be able to say 'there's going to be two new teams' but in the next breath say 'we don't know where they are yet'," McManis said.

"If I was (Seven Network chairman) Kerry Stokes bidding on something, I'd want to know where the hell the teams are going to be."

Comments by the NRL chief Gallop in the past year have signalled WA is one of the frontrunners for a new franchise should expansion, which would occur in 2013 at the earliest, be given the green light.

Gallop told a lunch in Perth in December that the WARL bid "has a big advantage because it gives us a presence for our sponsors in a big capital city that we don't otherwise have.

"In terms of the financial stability, the facilities, the time slot advantage and the expat population keen to get a rugby league team, then Perth is a frontrunner."
Competition for a potential new franchise has ramped up in recent months with backers for a second Brisbane team declaring they already have solid financial support from sponsors, upsetting the team behind the Central Queensland bid.

The Central Coast Bears have long boasted their credentials while a third bid from Queensland has emerged in the form of the Ipswich Jets whose proposal is being spearheaded by former Sydney Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan.

Rank outsider Papua New Guinea has also declared it's in the mix.

One of the drawbacks to WA's last assay into rugby league during the 1990s was the fact the now defunct Western Reds played all their home games at a cricket ground - the WACA.

If granted a licence the proposed WARL team would share the rectangular NIB Stadium with Super Rugby team the Western Force.

Last year the state government committed approximately $83 million to the first stage of redeveloping the ground which will include a modern eastern grandstand and a replacement of the playing surface.

The redevelopment, which is scheduled to begin in 2012, is expected to take capacity to about 22,000 with an aim to eventually increase the number of seats to 25,000.

Sackson said although the redevelopment was going ahead, Gallop had told him in its present form the stadium was "on par if not better than some of the existing venues on the east coast".

Meanwhile, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has committed to building a new stadium in Rockhampton if the Central Queensland bid is successful.

NSW Opposition Leader, and most likely premier come March 26, Barry O'Farrell has committed $3.5 million of funding for a new headquarters and state-of-the-art training centre should the Central Coast Bears' bid get up.

Sackson said the WARL would seek financial support from the WA Government if they're given the go ahead to help the club set up in the first 18 months.

WA Sports Minister Terry Waldron said the government has made no formal commitment to the WARL but that may change if they are granted a licence.

"There is a precedent for government to support bids for state teams to join national competitions, however, it would be premature to make any commitment until a formal process has been announced by the NRL," Waldron said.

No way is the Brisbane2 bid going to be ready for that, bye bye Brissie 2. Hope you work on your bid and you guys can be a potential powerhouse by 2017.
