West Coast Pirates Bid News

Great to hear Gallop recognising all that we bring to the table. Still some work to do for the WARL on securing some big $ backers but all signs remain good that we will be in at some point.

The WARL put a call out for the people of Perth to show they wanted an NRL team, they responded by selling out the ground, now it is up to the NRL and the IC.

Looks like they're trying to make it happen

Big miners boost Perth's prospects

PERTH officials are targeting some of the state's biggest mining companies, including Andrew Forrest's Fortescue Metals Group, Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton, as they attempt to secure enough backing to mount an indisputable case for a return to the NRL.

As South Sydney and Brisbane prepare to play at Perth's nib Stadium tonight, Western Australia Rugby League chief executive John Sackson confirmed his group had approached several mining giants. Among them is FMG, of which Forrest -- estimated to be worth more than $4 billion -- is majority shareholder. "I can't think of a more compatible partner than a major mining company, given mining is a major part of the economy," Sackson said. "It's a very, very good fit. It goes without saying."
Perth is considered one of the favourites to host an NRL team when the game expands, most likely in 2015 after chief executive David Gallop's comments last weekend that an expansion might be delayed.

The final decision will rest with the independent commission, which officials hope will move a step closer to reality on Tuesday when the inaugural eight commissioners are ratified.
The Australian revealed the identity of the eight last weekend, but the process has been delayed by a belated push from NSW to have western Sydney lawyer Jim Marsden included at the expense of former North Queensland and Ansett director Mark Williamson.
One of the most critical decisions facing the commission when it takes over running of the game from News Limited (publisher of The Australian) and the Australian Rugby League will be deciding when and where to expand. Perth, because of its favourable timeslot for television, is considered a frontrunner, along with a second Brisbane team.
The other regions bidding for entry are Ipswich, Wellington, central Queensland, NSW's central coast and Papua New Guinea. While the final decision will fall to the commission, it will be made after consultation with Gallop, the NRL clubs and the television broadcasters.
Sackson admits he was disappointed to hear Gallop say expansion was on hold until 2015, but said it wouldn't stop Perth pressing on with plans to return to the NRL -- the Western Reds were in the premiership from 1995 to 1997.

Good luck Perth. You would be my vote for next cab off the rank and on the other hand I believe you will be. Perth should never have been part of the rationalisation in the first place.

At the NRL game last Friday the WA Red Army was out and about for the first time ever. Many thanks to the volunteers who gave up their time and braved the weather! We got lots of positive feedback and spread the word about WA's RL supporters group. The WA Red Army is an independent supporters group set up to provide a voice to RL fans in the West and support the WA Reds in the NRL. The World’s Richest Person May Be An Australian Soon

29 June 2011 - Which Way To Pay

The World’s Richest Person May Be An Australian Soon

The Australian mining mogul Gina Rinehart may soon be the richest person in the world.
She inherited the business, Hancock Prospecting from her father who died in 1992. Rinehart senior had discovered the world’s largest iron-ore deposit in 1952, in Western Australia. When she inherited the company it was severely in debt but she managed to turn the company around, making it one of the most successful mincing companies in Australia.
Hancock Prospecting (HPPL) has gone from strength to strength and over the past years Rinehart has gone from Australia’s first female billionaire in 1992, within one year she was the fourth richest person in the country.
Part of the reason for the large estimates for Rinehart’s wealth is that her companies are entirely privately owned. She has three large minerals projects in development at the moment. These projects are founded on coal and iron ore extraction as well as the shipment and trading of these minerals.
Rinehart largely avoids the media spotlight, favouring a hands on approach to business and a hands off approach to celebrity. She has made investments in businesses outside the commodities sector. She holds a large stake in one of Australia’s premier media companies.
One commentator said that it is possible that Rinehart’s businesses could be generating annual profits of $10 billion in the future.
Australia is going through a commodities boom which some people have branded the gold rush. World demand, particularly China’s demand for iron ore and coal is bolstering Australia’s economy.

On 17 May 2006, BRW magazine named Rinehart Australia's first female billionaire with a value of A$1.8 bn. She was ranked Australia's eighth richest person in that magazine's 2006 Rich List. On the 2007 Rich List, released on 30 May 2007, BRW named Rinehart Australia's fourth richest person, up four places from the previous year, on the back of Australia's resources boom, with a fortune valued at A$4 bn. BRW editor, James Thomson, said that with the continuation of the boom Rinehart is in the best position to challenge James Packer as Australia's richest person.[10]
In the 2010 BRW Rich 200 she was described as "Australia's richest woman", with an estimated net worth at A$4.75 bn.[3] In 2011 Forbes Asia named her as Australia's richest person, with a net worth of A$9 billion, a rise of A$7 bn from the previous year.[11] In the 2011 BRW Rich 200 she was named Australia's richest person and described as "the first woman to top the BRW Rich list" with an estimated net worth at A$10.3 bn, more than double her fortune from the previous year.[3]
In 2011, Citigroup estimated that she is on course to overtake Carlos Slim, the Mexican magnate worth £46 billion (US$74 billion) and Bill Gates, the American chairman of Microsoft who is worth £35 billion (US$56 billion), mainly because she owns her companies outright and has no shareholders. Using the 11-times price-to-earnings ratio, “It is possible to see Rinehart’s portfolio of coal and iron ore production spinning off annual profits approaching US$10 billion,” giving her a “personal net worth valuation of more than US$100 billion.”[12]

I dont know wether Gina Rhineheart would have an interest in sponsoring a league ( maybe her advisers might entertain her with the idea) side in W.A.but if the NRL could get her attention, that would be quite a coup.

What the hell, see if she would like to invest in forming a new Pay TV company and form a break away competition.:D

Thanks Barefoot RL show for a great feature on tonights show.

I watched the show .

I remember recently someone from Melbourne sent them a letter complaining that the show focuses too much on NSW and Q'ld and I think they took that on board by visiting Perth and hopefully visit Melbourne soon.

Do you know how I can watch Barefoot/NITV on FTA? I always watched that show when it was on in Sydney but it ended with the end of the digital trial. I see the ABC is helping their AFL friends by running their equivalent show Marngrook with plenty of promotion.

I am afraid you will have to subscribe to Fox to watch the show. Its on Ch.180 Thurs nights 7.30 - 9.30pm. Previously it was aired on Thurs afternoon around 3pm and only for 1 hr. Barefoot grabbed the afl's spot for a nightime gig which is good, but Ch.180 still show Marngrook at another time as well. I have no idea when their show is on though.

Maybe we could start a petition for Barefoot R/L to be shown on the ABC, then they might start to notice people want to watch it on fta also.
