The mighty eels are having their last official function at Ronald McDonald house where they're throwing a christmas party for the kids [apparently Hindy is santaclause] and I was just thinking they have to be the most charitible club in the league. I've heard numerous functions and charitys they attend out of the spot light, and all that was proven with the Ken stephen medal a few years back when they won it as a club.

Maybe a few other should take a leaf out of their book and do a bit for the community instead of refusing signed jumpers for sick kids, make ads to improve their image, rort the system and spend most of it time conducting inhouse brawls.

Good on ya Parra!! you've done us proud yet again.

I have to agree. There is no doubt they do alot of good work out in the community. They go beyond the call of duty.

Hey MPE i emailed the club about 3 months ago to find out the same thing and they told me they are not doing eels on wheels this year.

I'm considering going to the trial match in Ballina in Feb 2004. :(

The "eels on wheels" thing may have been a victom of the pokie tax thing. The program was predominatly used to promote league in the country areas!! and no other club did more work in that area than us. However the NRL is putting forward a proposal to dedicate certain regional areas to each club to promote the game [that'll make the lazy bastads work] and in return they get first crack at the talent coming out of there.

While I think Parra are the best club and do the most for charities etc, many if not ALL of the 15 NRL teams and even the clubs only involved in the NSWRL do their part for charities and donation requests!

The whole Manly/Jersey/Sick kid drama was blown up by the media to sell papers, the club were very hard done by and it's unfortunate that the millions of dollars the Manly club would have spent on such things over the years have now all been overshadowed by a $200 incident.

I also heard Mark Coyne donated much of his contract money he earned over his entire career to charities, thats a great effort!

Your right maybe I am being a bit harsh on Manly with that one.

there are a heap of players out there that do a great deal of their own bat like Blacklock and Peachy, but I'm not really talking about them I'm talking about the club in general.
