Just when you thought the game's administration could not get any worse.

It's a meaningless pre-season game so two multi-millionaires can get some extra money outside the cap sorry if that doesn't warm our sentimental hearts.

Hmmm. It's a meaningless pre-season game that will sellout Suncorp stadium. They are some of the best players to lace on a boot. If it was Freddy and johns would you be so bitter?

Yes if they were getting paid outside the cap. Still a meaningless pre-season game even if it does sell out.

The "idea" the Tele is inventing seems a rort yes.

That would still suggest that the game would make a "profit" of 500k? Pie in the sky in my view.

Extrapolated across the entire NRL for 26 rounds that would suggest gate profits are 100M+. Complete bollocks.

If anything this game is sure to run at a loss and possibly break even.

Depends.

They might be able to get a sponsor to pay 100k for a box or sell TV rights for it.

You are all miserable muppets. I have no reason to doubt this article but the fact it seems written from a negative nsw biased view shows nsw fans just don't get it. It will no doubt be slaters last year as well. The $$ figures would be rubbery at best and I'm sure the qld gov would be promoting the game as well as it would bring fans into the city.

We in qld like to support and follow our Qld superstars. Not only are they qld superstars but 2 future immortals. 2 of the best players to lace on a boot in over 100 yrs of rugby league. Now forget your nsw bias and hate towards Qlders for a minute and surely it's not a bad thing to allow 2 future immortals a golden handshake. Really it's the least the Nrl could do.

From a Nrl hierarchy point of view I would probably try and tie this game to a post career marketing contract to promote the game once they retire.

Do you think gallen could sellout a local maccas let alone a stadium?

See the comments in this thread from Qld supporters who think this is bullshit also?

There's a muppet here alright, and you are him.

Was only a matter of time before one of the Kool Aid drinkers dropped by for some valuable insights.

It's not the game, it's the people running it.

you make it out as though geniused management is new thing in rugby league.

the people in the game make the game.

from over reliance on leagues club revenue, to the way they game is officiated now....the people of rugby league have no clue

there's a reason the game is a lower tier sport behind soccer and rugby in just about every other country it's played. it takes a special breed to be involved and theyre not that bright.

it's a wonder it's still popular here

I think you are missing the point.

NSW has no problem with the match being played, we also would be happy for it to be a great success.

But the money should go to the clubs and any payments to players be counted under the salary cap otherwise it puts a mockery to the salary cap like clubs such as the broncos / roosters / dogs already do with TPAs.

But then the storm started off as cheats so it is no surprise they would find another way to cheat.

Not missing the point at all and I can accept your reasoning to a point. But like what the Rlpa are arguing with the Nrl about is the issue over players IP.

So your ok for the clubs to benefit financially from the game but not the players? I think that is even worse.

Now if the game did happen it would have to happen 8 weeks after the World Cup final. 2/3 future immortals playing a game that will add $$ to the Brisbane economy, potentially Increase exposure to Victoria/Australia wide for the Nrl, advertising revenue from tv broadcast/radio etc. so everyone bar the players who the game is for should benefit? Hmmm

I don't really understand how this makes sense on any level? I'm guessing it won't happen though because there will be a huge outcry.
