What about Kimmorley?

I hate thinking about next season one month into this season but with all the player movement speculation at the moment it's impossible.

If we were to lose Keating and Mateo we are obviously going to need some help in the halves and the only halves available which wouldn't be massive gambles are Thurston, Kimmorley and Hornby.

It seems clear that re-signing our current players is Plan A.
If that doesn't work then obviously we are enquiring into Thurston potentially wanting to come down as Plan B. However recent articles suggest it is Cowboys and Biarritz neck and neck down the home straight while the rest of the pack are only now leaving the gates.
Hornby I doubt will leave the Gong and I don't think he is what we are looking for (although he may bring a different attitude).

But what about Kimmorley?
1. He's a rep halfback, kept Johns out of the 7 for NSW & Australia
2. He's premiership winner (granted a decade ago)
3. He's got a decent long kicking game
4. He's a general who won't be afraid of telling anyone what to do (my current gripe with our current halves)
5. He won't fall into the "next Sterlo" category because he's already established himself - it'd be similar to when we signed Taylor and history speaks for itself there... though we didn't win the GF...

Can't believe people are saying Kimmorley is an option

he is WAY past his best! He was good for 5-6 games last year, and has had a terrible to start to this year

Hell NO!! We deserve the wooden spoon for 10 straight years if we're stupid enough to sign him

umm, how about no on that one.....

despite having never rated except for his couple of past seasons, why do you think Canterbury is/was chasing Mortimer, Keating and any other young half and are now grooming Ben Barba??? Because as someone on here has already put it Kimmorley is 175 years old, we need to look to the future thanks - oh and we already have a couple of our own gnomes in Morts and KK

I don't see why everyone is deadset against it. As long as it isn't a massive contract (dollars & years) it'd be worth the gamble I reckon. If the worst were to happen this year we'd have Morts & Robbo as our options for 6 & 7 and no legit halves behind them whatsoever. Out of the halves coming off contract end of this season, only Kimmorley, Thurston & Hornby would definitely be an upgrade over Morts & Robbo. Agreed Kimmorley wouldn't be the first player I'd chase but if we were in dire straits there'd be no negative to signing him

look, lets put the hatred aside for a moment, Kimmorely is a fantastic competitor and someone we can probably do with now, but definitely not in 12 months time.

i though Kimmorly was expectional in game three for NSW last year. His tackle on Greg ignlis down the sideline says alot about a player. But he is just too old.

You're right!

That was one of his 5 good performances last year from 25 games!

This year he'll probably be down to 2-3, next year - he'll need a hip replacement by the end of the pre-season

Absolutely.

There are few smarter players - let alone halfbacks - in the competition.

Offer him a one-year deal that isn't huge on the cash. If he wants to play because he loves the game then he'll take it. If it's not enough money then he's not the player we're after.
