Kiwi burger bar "Motu" opened in the shade of the south gate of the Nanjing wall ... went the lot: quality beef, bacon, egg, pineapple, etc and talked the chef into frying the onions plus byo beetroot and voila ... not a bad facsimile of a real Aussie burger, served with chili-dusted fries. Since I was driving, banged it down with a Bundy ginger beer.

Had a craving for street food, which Canberra sadly lacks....so I made Dan Dan Noodles. I didn't have any sesame paste for the sauce but it was pretty decent anyway

I was gutted when they opened the week after I left. Had negotiated with the owner to get them all signed up to NKN, only to not even get to sample them myself.

At home, the family are slowly but surely redeeming lamb for me after two years of China taking a steaming dump over it.

Had a couple of lamp chops and a snag sandwich for dinner tonight. Made up for not eating on the f**king Countrylink train.

Metro and Times are both leagues ahead of Auchan for western food. Metro's a bit out of the way from Shanghai Lu, but might be moderately accessible from your backwoods.

My brother and I (mostly my brother) whipped up a feast for Mum & Dad's 33rd anniversary tonight.

We had chicken cordon bleu, snow peas, honeyed carrot, and baked potatoes. Washed it down with our choice of either beers or wine. Good times.
