Puig Aubert most games goals and points for France.

Well according to the picture its the 1954 World Cup clash between France and GB. (had to try and translate).

Although the Poms appear to be wearing a different jumper to their white one.

That game got a crowd of over 37,000 at Toulouse. To this day its a record crowd in France.

Who knows when it'll be broken.

That middle picture of Julien Rascagneres in the game between Manly and Illawarra was the Saturday game of Round 2 in 1983 a TV game.

There have also been other French referees in Australia's major competition.

In 1975 Francois Escande, took control of the TV match of the day, between Balmain and Easts in at Leichhardt Oval. He had a good game by reports.

He was in Australia for the 1975 World Championship tournament.

In 1977 Marcel Caillol who was here for the World Cup took control of South Sydney and North Sydney at Redfern Oval.

very nice, i forgot all about JULIEN RASCAGNERES reffing in NSWRL , but i remember seeing him ref tests matches, and that game of the kangaroos team, i think it was a midweek game in England, kangaroos tour , , JULUEN lost control, sent off DESSIE HASLER by mistake, des just came on from the bench , next minute he was mistakenly sent off, every one was laughing about the ref in that game , he had lost control lol

The French translation is misleading because it mentions 1954 and Coupe du Monde (World Cup).

However you are correct in that Gt Britain aren't wearing their white jerseys which they did in all their 1954 World Cup games. So it can't be from this tournament.

It looks like a Welsh jersey, however no hooker captained Wales in France in a game involving Puig Aubert.

Though Tommy Harris the Hull hooker captained Wales in Toulouse in 1959. Though Puig Aubert was no longer playing at international level.

I believe the game is from 23rd November 1952 in Marseille.

The respective captains are Tom McKinney (Other Nationalities) who was an Irish hooker playing for Salford and the legendary French captain Puig Aubert.

No Other Nationalities vs France.

For many years in the 50's Other Nationalities joined Wales, England and France in the European Championship.

They were made up of Australians, NZers, Sth Africans etc.

Great Australian players like Bath, Bevan, Clues even the legendary Rex Mossop played in this team so they were a team of very high standard. Bevan scored 26 tries in 16 games.

Jack Rayner
Was a Souths player from 1946-1957.
He won comps in 1950, 1951, 1953, 1954, 1955. Runner up in 1949 and 1952.
He was captain of the team in an era when Souths were dominant AND the mighty Clive Churchill was a player.
Not only that, Rayner was Player-Coach from 1949 until his playing retirement in 1957, and therefore, won 5 comps as coach. The great Jack Gibson equalled Jack, and never bettered (though since bettered by Wayne Bennett).
I respect his contribution, though never saw him play or coach, but he's one of my favourite Souths players of all time.

EDIT : Equalled by Ken Kearney as captain/coach at Saints too.

Not only that there was an agreement between Union and League about 1972 that benefited Union more than us. You would notice not many great union players came across after this, before that the international team had included some very decent ex union players.
Here is an explanation of what happened at the time:

The agreement was called ‘The Protocol’ between the two (rival) French Federations - of Rugby and Jeu a X111.
It was introduced in 1972, agreed to to by the respective Presidents, Albert Ferrasse and Rene Mauries.
The basic agreement was that clubs from one Federation could not sign players from the rival Federation after they had reached adulthood, (I think this was the age of 20, ie. the age limit for ‘Juniors’) but if they were internationals at Junior level they were also subject to the ‘Protocol’ no signing agreement.

It was a deeply unpopular move among Rugby League people as they saw it as a Rugby Union ploy to stop League clubs recruiting Union players, which had been going on since Rugby League was first introduced to France – but, at the same time, Union clubs were very active in snapping up talented League Juniors as they came under the age barrier. It was seen as Ferrasse strangling a big part of League’s player-supply and also one of its biggest sources of prestige and publicity – and it was done with the backing and approval of the Ministry of Sport.

Look back through the history of French R.L. and so many players came into the game from R.Union. ‘The Protocol’ stopped all that.

‘The Protocol’ was finally blown out of the water in 1980 when the League’s biggest star, Jean-Marc Bourret, was poached by Rugby Union. They said it was in response to League signing a Union junior international (Serge Costals) so all ‘protocol’ was cancelled. And, once again, the government’s Ministry of Sport allowed the Rugby Union to have its way.
