What can the RLWC learn from the 2015 RUWC?

Fan zones. They've worked well at the RWC, not sure where you'd put them in Australia but they can definitely have one on the Auckland waterfront at the Cloud

Watched the All Blacks game last night. It was a close, tense game where the lead changed multiple times and it went down to the wire. And even so, it was still a boring, plodding affair, South Africa only keeping in the contest on technicalities, that never reached any great heights.

And 80,000 people lapped it up while we had our 4th biggest country get embarrassed in an un-televised test match.

Nothing, we did well in 2013, interstate (national) football brings out the floating voter, it did at Leeds on Friday night.

Things that I would do is to get rid of the scrum and call the hooker, kuzultoor (pronounced couz-ull-toor), which is from the Welsh word for connector. And insist that commentators say acting-halfback rather than dummy-half and that England call the stand-off, five-eighth; the scrum-half, halfback and the half-backs, the halves.

I would like to see Hull FC, Leeds, Wigan and Saints join the NRL. Still top 8 into the Finals, GF still in Sydney.

Match day awareness.
Come the 2017 world cup what we must do is make all people aware on what days the games are being played. Who's playing. At what venues. Kick off times and admission prices.
Its not a difficult to do.

Expanding on that point, social media must be managed and run well. Its interesting that the NRL have sent Steve Mascord to England as correspondent for all the International games taking place. There has been articles on the Leeds and French games already.

Hopefully next year a social media account fot the World Cup can be created and can work in tandem with each nations profiles/NRL/League Media to promote games.

Interesting that this is the first time we've had an Aus vs NZ final in a RWC.

There is no easy path to the final.

Yeah its finally happened after the 3rd attempt, and when I mean third, is that previous instances Aus and NZL have been in separate semi finals and but its either AUS have lost their semi and NZL has lost theirs. Plus I think its 3 times Aus and NZL have played in a semi final.

It is a tough run, but still in the history of their world cup only 5 nations have made the final, with one of them failing to win it.

Ironically its France who is the same boat as their league team.

One of 5 nations (if you count Great Britain and England as separate) to have the made the final of a RLWC but haven't won a World Cup.

I wonder who will be the next nation to make the final in League, cant really see it happening for a while but still you never know.

It amazes me that as a fourth tier sport in Aust just how much hype the wallabies get around this carnival. I think the wallabies have not been that impressive, yet here they are in the final. just reinforces that union is more fluff than substance. I think its the nature of the actual game that creates close results. The strength of the lower tier nations is hugely overstated, yet union continually gets accolades for its global presence, yet essentially most countries are crap. The skill level in next tier league far outweighs the plodders that play yawnionin the next tier down. Barring a major choke this is here for the ABs to lose, who seriously challenges them. Every one seems to admire the All blacks dominance, yet the Kangaroos dominance for years was totally disregarded.

Johnny Plath I agree with you 100%.

For whatever reason union is a game that actually minimises skill and seems to equalise lack of skill...

I finally watched a few minutes of it last night - South Africa v All Blacks - and i have to say the skill level of the SA players was negligable. Their backs were atrocious. Seemed to have absolutely no thought, skill, creativity - nothing! And yet they were winning for most of the game. Also the one thing I used to think they had over league (maybe) was their kicking game in general play - but NO it was *&^%%. Most of their in game play was really really poor - even from NZ.

One thought i had - which is off topic- why dont they ever kick long from the kick off OR drive their kicks to the corners? if the worst that happens is the other team gets a line out then so what? I saw heaps of them go against the thrower last night... anyway, I cant claim to understand any of the game

South Africa played the way they thought they could beat New Zealand in wet conditions. Last week when SA won (playing pretty much the same forward style game) we had lads on here saying the Southern Hemisphere just play rugby league hence why they beat the Northern Hemisphere. SA as I said played the exact same way that they did this week, so which one is it lads?

The other 3 semi finalists this week played with plenty of skill. Argentina ran the ball far too much really. Their style of play has evolved hugely since 2007 when their tactic was bombs from Juan Martin Hernandez and their pack beating the other one.

Make the right moves now and it could be in 8-12 years.

Don't and it could be never

Problem is, it should have been 8-12 years ago we started developing these second tier nations. At some stage our sport has to stop going for the quick fix and actually plan for the future.
